So, I own a shop, but for some reason get a bunch of odd ball work at home.

The guy that delivers my oil and propane's been watching me build all the crap here. He also likes IH's and has been trying to get War Pig Version 12 from me for a year now.

I am now building his 79 Scout 2.

I've been looking for a Cummins R2.8L and 6l80E kit to drop into it, but it's on national back order. He wants this going by end of June...

So this thing may get a Gm 8.1L (weighs as much as the current v8), 4L80E and NP205 on Holley Dominator X EFI.

He wants a nice driver.

I have a Jeep 3/4T Dana 60-2 for it, getting all the goodies, including a set of JK disk brakes.

The front 44 will get a mix of Dana 44 parts to net bigger brakes, internal splined hubs, etc.

Adding hydroboost, American Auto Wiring Harness, Vintage Air, stainless brake hoses and lines, a 25g fuel tank, etc.

It's getting dropped here, at my house, this coming Wednesday.

Whelp, started taking this apart, since we're doing Vintage Air. I think Scouts have the most fucked up HVAC in the world.

Anyone need an IH V8 and auto trans, of unknown history?

Funny, the 8.1L weighs less and is about 4x the power.

120 hp/ 150 tq over a 345.

80 hp / 100 tq over a 392.

So not 4 times. But def an upgrade. But at double the fuel cost. I was getting 11-12 mpg out of my worn out 345.

You have no idea what I did to the 8.1L or the condition of this IH V8, but keep hugging those IH nuts. :flipoff2:

My point is that the 8.1L going into this is very well built. Over 600hp built....

but yeah, I also have no clue what the IH V-8s put out.

yep, that's the IH grease/oil mess for sure :laughing:

purchased or fabbed crossmember cradle thing? looks like the center piece is a temporary piece pretending to be the motor for mock up / positioning purposes?

It's a DIY4X crossmember... I've used them a lot. The center drops out to service the oil pan.


 
Does this make sense now? A BBC will live there. and we can pass through brake plumbing and wiring. Oh and swapping to a more normal brake plumbing schema. Obviously not centered or measured, just sitting there.

Whelp, I'd say the 8.1L and 4L80E is in. Next is the Chevy 205.

We also did a steering box reinforcement and sent the stock box to Red head, for a rebuild and reduction to 3 turns, lock to lock

Very cool! That ac compressor going to clear the inner fender?

What's redhead charge for the 3 turn steering gear rebuild? I've got a spare here, might be a bit nicer off road than the 4 turn standard steering gear.

Yeah, there's plenty of room.

395 plus parts.
 
Long snout Chevy 205 and Lokar 4l80E shifter going in today. That's an AA kit for the VSS that the 4wd trans doesn't have in the back port.

I should have had it done, but forgot when they were in the transmission.
