7.3 clutch and realistic expectations

Thats the one I had and just got. The 1944 I believe. Anyhow, it should be good for at least 130k miles of big dumb loads.
How did the nylon bushing hold up? Seems like some cheap bullshit to me, so i ordered a sealed bearing to swap it out with.

I dont have the old one out yet...

Is that smoke comming from the clutch because thats what would happen.

I actually crawled under it and determined the leak was trans fluid so a new input shaft seap was also ordered as well as an ICP sensor and new ac compressor. At least the old turd is getting a little love.

Im now at 305k on stock front wheel bearings... so there is that.

Well so far 100% of people Ive talked to have confirmed that I should be happy with the life I got out of my clutch.... damnit, I really was hoping for some confirmation bias but I guess thats out.
I think you should have gotten more life.

But mostly because my 7.3idi with the upgraded southbend clutch is going to be close to 100k miles soon, and that sucked to replace last time :flipoff2:

Ive been doing it for years. You can actually do it without that fitting but its more difficult cause youve got to hold the grease hose end directly over the abs hole with some force. Just remove rotor and abs sensor and pump into abs sensor hole.
The first time you do it itl probably take about 30 pumps before it gets stiff and filled. Dont force any more. Spin hub while doing it. Good time to grease sticky caliper pins with silicone grease also.

Well the clutch was fully used up. Burnt looking, worn fown, cracks everywhere in clutch and flywheel as well as the pilot bushing being non existent. Will post pics this evening. Rear main was also leaking.

Knowing that you were driving it I feel real good about my couple thou of runout on a flywheel bearing pocket I machined.

Got all the goodie out of that one. If you get another hundo out of it your truly winning anyway. Your using a tractor to haul tractors, it’s going to have a little less life span than the homo driving a PSD as a DD when a car would suffice for them.

Some friends of mine who only rock manual trans trucks had a few to many barley pops one night and had a burn out contest with their tow rigs. Southbend warrantied both their clutches no questions asked.

New one is in and ive put 100 miles on it. Strangely enough it feels more like a 1990ford ranger clutch and nothing like the other one that took daily leg presses to be able to push

I’ve felt that way after an exact same replacement clutch too. Figured it was the throw out bearing
/fork being new as much as anything on a Toyota trans.

Tought it was the same.... but that was strictly going after a part number in my head and being roughly the same price. Either way it works and its in there. About to head out and change my leaky fuel filter cap and icp sensor.

Whats the best as far as ball joints these days? Passenger side lower has some play
Different version or was it supposed to be exactly the same thing?

You want fun, if the stop in the MC let's the pedal come up to far the helper spring pops out. Then you will know what leg day is all about. Mine has a coat hanger around it to keep the pedal from over extending, I'm gonna fix that one of these days.

That was my experience also

Of course the zf5 fork is very crude and pivots on a ball which had worn completely through the fork :homer:
