I think I saw in someone else's 4runner build here that people were showing different ways to sas these, I'll have to go find that and get some inspiration

If not the I just need to get some big plate on the frame, looks like my welds are just ripping the frame apart

My welds look like bird poo but they're stronger than the frame at least :flipoff2:

Its fine to not use the keepers on ring gear bolts but red loctite must be used.

Shame on the shop.

Going REM and cryo again?

Ya my previous third member was built by davez off-road and it lasted a good 4 years of hard abuse with no keepers

No cryo this time :frown: but I did do rem

Ill do rem polish on everything from now on

Now that I've got the bumper off I can see some more of what's going on

I think the steering box is twisting the frame, funny I was holding off on hydro assist till I upgraded my knuckles so that I wouldnt break shit :homer:

Anybody know a shop localish to my that will rebuild some Bilstein 7100s?

I'll look for another good spot to post this as well

So I basically boxed the stock crossmember and then reinforced the frame and then tied those two together

Each of the red boxes below are separate plates that I welded to the frame/body mount and then welded the plates together, so it should be a nice solid piece now.... In theory

I thought I saw someone here do it but I couldn't find it, but I added a little skid block to the bottom of the trail gear housing

On the last pic you can see the third member hangs down below the housing and last time I just grinded the third member housing down some so it wasn't a huge lip to catch on

At koh I got hung up on the rear and actually bent one of the lower diff bolts that doubles as a drain plug and it just got me worried that I'm still catching on the lip that's left over after grinding down the third member so I went this route

Chime in if you guys ground your thirds down or added a skid

All those paint pen markings make you look a bit paranoid. Red Loctite would suffice!

Weird side experiment, I ordered some uni air filter sheets and I'm going to glue them down over these "air intakes" under the front cowl

Just an attempt to have some cleaner air that blows out of the vents in the cab

I'll report back after the 4th of July and let you know how it goes

Also a before and after of just cleaning them

Side experiment complete, we'll see if it works 🤷

Summit recommended contact cement, but when I got the filter it says to use silicone, but I had already bought contact cement so we're going to try that out

I also threw a wad of more porous filter material (see thru black stuff) into the boxed area

Alright everything is painted, mounted, and basically ready to go

I'm waiting on some misalignment spacers, the ones I had from ruffstuff wrecked the bolt on the pitman arm so I'm trying a different brand for that

Is 6 bolts enough to hold a bumper on? Kinda don't want to weld it.. but I also don't want it to get ripped off

I also gave the engine bay a good cleaning

Couple more little things and I'll be ready for the 4th of july

Finally I'll be dealing with the important stuff.....

Testing out rock lights:flipoff2:

Got these in the mail yesterday, kc one is $30 and then I got the diode dynamics one that's $40

Diode dynamics claims 1k lumens

So I'll put one on the front and one on the back and see which one I like better before I waste anymore money on them

but is one even gonna work much. you need to get 4 of each and give us some good feed back, then sell off the ones you dont want at a huge loss to us because they are used and you discarded them :lmao::lmao::lmao::grinpimp::grinpimp:

good luck on the testing, never heard of the Diode dynamics so this should be good for sure.

 you're right! I should add in the Baja designs ones at $70 a pop too!

The new third member is making metal:mad3:

I cleaned the axle housing the best I could, ram rod the tubes sprayed brake cleaner and wiped it down a million times

Put the new third in, took it around town and found like 2 little shavings on the mag drain plug, I drained it as much as I could, topped it off and then hit the Rubicon

Once I got back I checked the mag drain plug and it had a ton of metallic sludge on it, so I pulled the third and this is what I'm seeing

There's full on metal shavings in there along with the glitter

I'm going to throw some new gear compound on it and see what's going on, and then call the shop that did it
