42 Rocket Surgeons dead in SE

In addition... meteorologists love sensational journalism to the point where they have lost credibility.

Tracking is FREQUENTLY wrong, and storms are as frequently blown out of proportion.

Anecdotal story to remind everyone.

Houston was supposed to be in direct path of Hurricane Rita (2005)
The entire city evacuated... MASSIVE gridlock ensued. The Gridlock resulted in many deaths of people just stuck in traffic in the heat, ran out of fuel, no where to get any, issues with medications and such... Clusterfuck doesn't even begin to cover it...
And the storm turned, and Houston ended up on the clean side, and barely got any rain.

Yeah... after that... I rarely ever consider evacuation...

I was there for that. I lived in/near Bacliff, about 2 blocks from the bay and was fully expecting my place to be under 15' of water. Spent the week partying in San Antonio with a coworker. "Sorry boss, traffic's still way too bad to drive back. Maybe tomorrow." Other than the shitshow traffic, it was a nothing burger for TX and just fucked up LA more than it already way.

I was in Deer Park.
I sat in traffic, but after 3 hours I turned around and went home. It took 20 minutes to get back from where it took me 3 hours to get to.

That was before everyone had a real time GPS in their pocket, but I had a handheld garmin with all the road maps loaded in to it. My coworker left 2 hours before me since I had to go all the way home and get my dog and pack up whatever I could cram in to my little SUF to try to save. I followed a bunch of back roads with the help of the GPS and caught up to him around Columbus. Jumped on the highway for 1 exit and he followed me on back roads all the way to SA and we beat some other people we were in touch with by 5-6 hours. :smokin: His mom lived on some fancy golf course and we spent 5-6 days just getting shitfaced and then at the country club for Blood Marrys the next morning. Saw Chevelle at Sunset Station that week too. :grinpimp:
