Alrighty, I made a dumb decision and bought 400rds of Winchester 145gr FMJ for about 20 cents a round. Who could pass up a bargain like that(evidently not me). So the only reasonable response is to get a gun that shoots it! Being an AR fan it will be that platform utilizing a good deal of spare parts laying around. So far I have a 10.5" barrel, 7"Carbine tube handguard, Anderson upper, lower and bolt. CMMG brace is on the way and it will get some sort of optic probably a compact scope. Anyone mess with this round yet?

I wouldnt run it out of anything shorter than 16". Effective range is about 250 yds out of a 20" barrel.

Well 9mm FMJ is going for over $1/round on gun broker right now, so you’ll come out ahead even with the price of the gun.

I’ve been curious about it, we don’t have pistol type restrictions here, but it seems decent as a hunting round for a kid. Should thump stuff with low recoil. Waiting to see what happens with 6mm ARC also.

That 6mm ARC is an interesting cartridge. Although I must confess that at a glance I can't see it being much better than the 6.5 Grendel. Before Sandy Hook I had spent a great amount of effort consolidating cartridges, that episode taught me a great deal about diversity. So now, I like having options! Plus, just like this deal sometimes odd calibers equal great deals. Like the 50 boxes of .357Sig I bought for $5 a box very well justified a $100 conversion barrel!

Yeah, it’s not so much “better” than other cartridges, it’s that it’s “just enough” as a kid’s hunting cartridge. I feel .223 is marginal, and have thought the ideal would be a 100 gr bullet doing around 2,500 fps, which is almost exactly what the 6mm ARC does from a 16” barrel.

Comparing it to a .243, it’s like the .308 “little brother” to the .300 Win Mag. Less recoil, less blast, but still most of the capability at shorter ranges. There are plenty of other cartridges that could do the same thing, but most of them are antiquated which means they are difficult to get factory rifles and ammo for.

It’s a little bit faster than .300 Blackout with a 110 gr bullet, while having a way better BC and SD.

I built one this spring on a JoeBob billet lower, 10" barrel, 1x8 vortex scope, I'm more than comfortable at 200 yards on deer.
