In my collection of Whelens, I currently have, and hunt with, 2-700DM's, a 750 Woodsmaster carbine and a recently purchased and as yet to be hunted Ruger #1.
I discovered the Whelen a number of years ago from a hunting buddy. I had started hunting more frequently at my homestead, which is sub 100 yard bush hunting as opposed to clear cut hunting further north, 200to 400 yard plus opportunities. At the time I was using a 7mm magnum, which, was fine for that reach out and touch something long distance feeling but did a little too much meat damage at the bush yards mentioned. The Whelen, using Hornady 200g Superformance, and in the case of my one 700, 200g Core-Lokt, is now my go to moose round.
