323ci trans problems

I bought one the other day Bmw 323ci, thought I might look into a aluminum 5.3 swap. Well it runs and drives, feels pretty fun even at 170 hp. The 5 speed manual works in first and third just fine. The rest don’t engage. Is it just a worn bushing thing? Or do I have real problems?

Check the shifter linkage. On the back of the trans where the shift shaft comes out there is a seal that tends to leak. Oil gets on rubber bushings, bushings get sloppy, possibly can lead to not correctly engaging gear.

i ordered a new bushing kit, i would not bother but the air works great and i may just drive it for a while.
