I can now say I'm USN Retired.

It was a crazy run and I don't regret anything.

I've literally sailed around the world twice, been to ports in more countries than I can remember. Some of my favorites were Vladivostok, Russia; Iqueque, Chile; Panama City, Panama; Niigata, Japan; Haifa, Israel.

I was stationed on 2 carriers in Norfolk and spent the rest of my time at Naval Station Everett, Wa. 2 tours at IMF (ship repair facility), 1 Frigate, and 1 Destroyer (2 tours).

I'm so relieved that I'm done. What a wild ride.

'Bout time.:smokin:

At your next job, you need to forget the fact you were a chief in the Navy. Don't try to run your next effort like it's the Navy... it will end poorly for you.
Depends... if it's a bunch of vets.. he will be fine! Civilian business, well there's going to be a learning curve! Lol

Nope. I work with a bunch of vets, and nobody likes that attitude. I don't think KarlVP is that kind of chief, based on his posts here, but it could happen.

25 years, 4 months and 19 days seems too random. Is that like the day after you can retire full beni's or something?

Congrats btw!

After 20, you're elgible for retirement (pending contracts, etc), but you can only retire on the final day of the month, regardless of the day you enlisted.

Pro tip, expect your taxes to be fucked your first year (especially if you're workign a second job after retirement). Did you do BDD, or do you have to wait to file with the VA until 1 Dec?

I haven't scheduled my Va appointment yet. I'm waiting on the ship to finalize my medical record and get it sent to the DAV so he can begin processing it.

EDIT: we have a savings account set aside for the first year tax fuckex.

Here at my base, there's a VA rep in the hospital itself - send him your records, and 1-3 weeks later, you get a completed initial claim, ready for your signature. Then he sends it to the VA. No external agencies needed. It works out pretty well. You have to file between 180-90 days prior to seperation to qualify for BDD though.

And keep your copy of the medical records
