Oregon is getting bad.
Huntington is the red X

the Thompson fire to the north wasn't there until late yesterday, now looks to be 20K+ acres

So question for you guys that may know. Those water tankers. Does the pilot drop the load or do they have dedicated engineer?

I can't imagine that pilot doing anything but concentrating on avoiding terrain as they are flying so low. There must be other crew in charge of hitting the dump switch

Apparently it's getting really bad. My county ranger is there and not sure where, but just saw on Fox news that it's some ridiculous amount of acres now and creating it's own weather. Any news on it would be appreciated.

My Chico kid was hanging out with a friend near where the Park fire started. They decided it was time to stop swimming when they got some spray from a fire helicopter drop .

The fire quickly went from 500 to 1500 acres. She is now hosting a few refugees from near the fire zone.

Now there’s a second fire south of Chico. The kid is west of both, fire is moving northish. Bug out bags being packed.

I swear these fires are intentional.

The one in bidwell park supposedly was started from a arsonist setting a vehicle on fire and rolling it down a road.

Sounds like Jasper, Alberta is burning tonight. National Park town, the whole park was evacuated over the past couple of days. I'm near Calgary and we are choking on all the smoke.

Army chopper being sent in to assist rescue people behind the park fire.

Yep, we work with the utility company and were told that everyone, including the firefighters, had to gtfo in a hurry. Multiple structures down, including the Maligne Lodge

I can’t imagine a pilot not wanting to be in control of that much weight leaving the aircraft in a hurry.
Likely a push button on the yoke.
is that any different than military bombers of old, with a bombardier?

In chico now not blowing in the direction I'm at but winds do change, I'll get pics as available.

Its definitely a huge fire from last night.

here is an overlay with structures shown as yellow dots.
I am sure all efforts are on the southern area of the fire.

for reference the fire is now 20 miles north to south

Side note:

A lot of fires are on FS land, yet the FS has spent the last few decades closing or limiting access to trails/roads.

It irritates me when fire officials talk about lack of access to get their equipment in to fight the fires.
