0% containment and all tankers were released via watch duty.

Maybe they want to burn another town to the ground!!!

I haven't seen 1 tanker flying over Roseville all day.
Usually you can watch them do hot laps if a fire like this going on.

According to what a close relative has said they (some of the tankers) went to help with the fire up in siskiyou county.

Saw one of the tankers refilling down at McClellan airport what was McClellan AFB.

7% containment on Thompson fire 3500 acres.

Missed this thread last weekend when we had the Creek Fire here.

Started as a house fire that was almost immediately a total loss. Family got out safe. I could see the smoke and hear ammo cooking off before I knew what was going on. Jumped in the Polaris and jammed down the road to see my neighbor’s house fully engulfed. There were several engines there and more coming. They weren’t even trying to put it out at that point. The property was well maintained as far as fire danger so I went back home to calm the wife.

Maybe half hour later I hear a really loud rumble. I stepped out of the garage to see
what it was and saw a large fire making a run up the hill in the tree tops. Now it was getting scary.

They had planes and helicopters on it quick. I didn’t get many pictures or videos of the actual fire because I was busy getting the generator fired up to power the well since the power went out. I had hoses dragged around the house and felt ok (or all least that is what I was telling my wife…)

Helicopters did most of the work, and the planes got a retardant perimeter around it quick. The fire stayed on the other side of the creek, maybe 300 yards from my house. If it crossed the creek, it’s super steel and really overgrown all the way up to my house.

They stopped progress at about 15 acres.
Pretty crazy having the helicopters dripping water on you from just emptied buckets, and a 737 and C130 dropping retardant at about eye level 200 yards in front of you.

Glad you got out okay. That kind of thing puts a pucker in a hurry.

<stalker> So that is where you are "near neighbor":flipoff2:

For home owners insurance, do you guys all go through your house and take video of all your stuff to ensure you get your personal property coverage in case of a total loss from fire? Or pictures alone? Then where do you keep the video/pictures?

Every few/6 months I do a video walk through. It stores in my iCloud.

Thompson fire update

Holy shit, that was a close call.

My properties are pretty decent, without being bare. It’s the steep 91 acres below me that is my concern.
That is the fine line I'm tip-toeing also especially with Cal-Fire going ape-shit up here with inspections. The guy who visited my house was basically requesting 100' radius wasteland to comply at least to my wife:eek:

Speaking of wildfire 'hardening', does anyone have any good ideas for hardening window openings? A lot of the reports I've seen imply that the roof and siding usually aren't the fire vector but the window opening. What is a good way to protect window openings in the event of a fire? I'm thinking of something like how hurricane folks board up their windows.

They what?
Many areas in CA now have Defensible space inspectors running around telling people to rip out landscaping they think could be an issue. So basically, anything combustible within 100 feet of a structure should be fire resistant if not straight up concrete.

Interesting. Do they have any teeth or is it just their strongly worded opinion?

They what?
They have been going around and inspecting yards then telling owners they "must" do work or get fined.:shaking::flipoff:

Of course, they come when my 'shop pad' was over grown with weeds and my free electric mower had died.

They wanted me to devegitate a LOT of places of St. Johns ground cover.

The prk going full natzi......

WHAAAAAAT?????

Canceling homeowners insurance sound familiar ?

Not that I've seen. My MIL had just redone her entire front yard right before they came and left her, I think a 9-page report of what to change. She hasn't done anything.

I was there when they did my dad's place and he was welcoming. I also know their boss, the person training them and a couple of the original volunteers from when they first started here, so started name dropping, and they split pretty quick:laughing:

it is important to know what the guidelines are as many get miss stated.

there has always been the 100 feet of defensible space around the structure (or to the property line if that is closer)
that does not mean baren landscape.
it does mean not having overgrown brush in that area. trees should be limber up a minimum of 6 feet or 1/3 of the tree height.
I have trees within 8 feet of my house that are 80+ feet tall, they are fine as they are limber to higher than the roofline.

recently they have added a 5 foot hardened zone.
that is to be nothing flammable in the five feet to the house.

I had Calfire do an inspection about a year ago.
was honestly happy to hear what they had to say.
there were some pine needles on the roof at the time and firewood still stacked near the house.
they had no issues with trees or brush. (I have removed almost all brush over the last 20 years)

it was not an issue
I have heard of others that they may have been more aggressive with.

I think initially you get a warning, and they will want to see the issues have been resolved. it is coming that there will fines in the future, and they will come from the county.

I do not like the idea of being told by the government what to do. but it is in everyone's best interest that each do the best that is appropriate.
my property being firesafe protects those up the hill from me. I hope my neighbors down the hill do the same to help protect me.

Yea the state is needing a reset.
Interesting how they are veering here and there historicaly , don't cut nuthin, oh wait...
Yea no lets mow...:shaking:

Now they want to pressure landowners :flipoff:

Stay in yer lane already.
You want to pay for it?
Yea still a hard NO

I play that game ( last paragraph) in the floodplain world.
I wish my down stream neighbors WOULD CLEAN THE DITCHES:eek:
Yes doing your part rocks, but we got to much gvt. Overreach now...

My experience somewhat mirrors Santa's comment. They were a bit rude to my wife and it involved 'nuking' a lot of vegetation. I forget the full list they tried to pull on my wife. They waited less than a week and sent a second notice:eek: I did only two items on their list that were already on my list; de-weed my shop pad and cut some St Johns from near propane tank... I had ordered my weedeater the day before they visited. The rest of their list was bullshit and I confirmed it with two of the local fire fighters in my area.
