What's new

2024 Wildfire season. :(

Demob, if multiple crew start same day. They'll end roll same day. Unless there's extension (21 instead of 14 days). It's mandatory day off regardless then back at it.

Methods of fighting fire/strategy is different depending who runs the show but one of shot crew got to burn yesterday

Flew back to dfw from San Jose yesterday. We flew over more fires than I can remember. One in or near Yellowstone and 4 or 5 smoke spots in Nevada/western UT.

Don’t forget the USFS has caused alot of this from 50+ years of poor Forest management.

From a friend of mine on the OR fires

what is burning? looks like there is nothing but dirt and maybe grass . a few trees at the top of the pic

ah yea i have seen that shit in Utah when we were in Moab. I bet that shit does burn hot and fast.

I'm getting small pieces of ash north of it.

Good to see all hands on this... but damn it exploded to almost 200 acres:eek: It looks like it did a pretty good jump to the east(Slate Mountain)

I'm not worried about the fire except if they force a mandatory evac for my area or up Wentworth. I've got to go into Placerville as well as Garden Valley(maybe) so a bit of a challenge with pet patrol here:shaking: I've got a secondary squat location so from that stand point, mostly good.

edit It looks like they are closing access to Swansborro. And Garden Valley is only east of 193... so not much of GV was hit.

Just stole this pic from the CAL FIRE Amador-El Dorado Unit FB page.

It looks like it’s burning in a near clear cut area. I’m surprised on the amount of smoke it’s putting off.

Not fully. They could be more aggressive for sure but Around here and other local area timber sales have been held up in court for years. Hard to manage when your timber sales plans gets stuck in court for 10 years.

Lots of helos 'raiding' Finnon lake nearby:

Oddly enough, I was at the north western edge of the mandatory fire evac yesterday afternoon(Eels Ranch)

I was out back talking on the phone about 45 minutes ago and it was really knocked down, just sort of a haze coming from it. Then at about 3:45 it looked like it blew up and a column formed again.

2 small tankers just flew over out of Columbia for it

just saw an update:
There is an increase in fire activity per radio traffic & 6 air tankers have been requested including 4 S-2 tankers & 2 large air tankers.

Why wouldn't they be pushing in fire breaks with dozers?

I see the fire retardent lines but still, that looks like and easy one to deal with on the ground.
