What's new

2024 Wildfire season. :(

That is what I read somewhere else. It is just the first time it came into my area.

'PTSD' from Mosquito fire cause me to be a bit paranoid by 'excess' smoke in my area.:emb:

Dammit, another 'app' I need on my computer.:homer: The smoke ring looks to line up with my area.

lightning storms tends to do that...

I saw the same footage. but they only showed what they wanted you to see.
if you went back 24 hrs before the smoke started, you would have seen the storms that had gone through.

It seems like the one I saw showed more than just the fires starting.

I read too many articles and skim even more, hard to remember what the exact details are. I don't even remember what website the story came from.

Update on Park fire NorCal.

Now 401200 acres and 27%.

Now 420,000 acres 35%

I saw that pop up on CHP Traffic site. Isn't this like the 3rd one in a month near by?
Third in the general vicinity of the airport, and a couple off of Meiss Road (south of Jackson Road, mostly very rural).

A few years ago, we had grass fires starting randomly near the clubhouse in the HOA. A Calfire investigator had a talk with all of the seasonal grounds keepers. The next day, all but one showed up for work. The grass fires stopped.

Calfire stuff...

We are lacking moisture the next couple days. Hopefully I need my windshield wipers tomorrow here in the bay.

The Park Fire continues to burn actively in some areas. The overnight humidity recovery was very poor. The fire is well-established in the Mill and Antelope Creek drainages where it will continue to build heat and be resistant to control.

New evacuations were ordered in Tehama County in Zones TEH-718, TEH-722, TEH-724.

Critically low fuel moistures, steep canyons, long drive times and daily spot fires have caused difficulty in suppressing the fire spread.

Temperatures will continue to be hot and dry throughout the day, with primary growth aligning with the topography to the north and east.

The fire is expected to continue to challenge crews until more favorable conditions arrive later in the week.

From what I know thehotshotwakeup (instagram) is an ex hot shot guy that started up a podcast. Been following him for awhile. He talked about the hermits peak/calf canyon fire being a dormant slash burn and the cerro palado fire being similar long before that was made official. (NM fires from 2 years ago)

In 1988 I was in one of the Army units President Reagan sent to help fight the Yellowstone fire. We mainly went in to put out hotspots. About a week in to our time on the ground, the weather changed significantly. Storm fronts started rolling in increasing the humidity. Once it started snowing they had us break camp.

During that time I learned two things (besides wild land firefighting). Those guys eat VERY well, and they don’t get paid enough for what they do :usa: 🥃

Hopefully they get it handled early today..

probably half our crew evacuated last night. I owoke up and saw it on watch duty.. “should be moving away from everyone.. they’ll be fine till morning” and went back to sleep.. this morning I’m getting texts that they evac’d successfully overnight.

I guessing they have to eat a ton of calories just to maintain. probably burning 10-15k calories a day
