Title is the short... to go with the overused: who is the Speed Queen of ranges?

My current range is a GE dual oven four burner unit that is probably from the 70s:eek: It is mostly working but within 5 years, the wall behind will be short for a pass-through.

Basically, I want a no frills solid kitchen range/oven that will run propane. I want a range that I can put a match to if the power goes out. I have zero desire for 'internet of things'(TM) hook in.

An analog timer or no timer is perfect. In six years, I have never touched my current one:eek:

No bullshit LED stuff. I'm not a fan un-needed lights shinning in the middle of the night.

Cool feature to have would be burner to griddle conversion but not at sacrifice of hugely complex. I liked my parents old electric GE that had a swappable burner to gridle.

I've got standard 30" wide opening and standard counter depth.

We have this.

Oven is fine, used mostly for cookies.

Griddle is great for grilled cheeses and quesadillas.

I think it came with the conversion kit from Home Depot, Auburn.

Has 3 different sized burners to do everything. Price point was what we needed also. I cook outside 90% of the time, but it works like it should.

in for this as well.

our is 30+ years and is due to be replaced.

I also want the ability to light the burner with a match if power is out but I think that may be a problem with newer ones.

Etyler2 That was one that popped up on my radar about 2 months ago when I was just browsing for shits and giggles if a gas range had a griddle:cool2: Will it light up with a match?

I think the light with a match is a pipe dream but it is a nice hope to find :)

This is what I ordered .. . propane version. I haven't picked it up yet to instal. Looking forward to cooking on a real range and tossing the Coleman camp stove . . .. . . Not cheap but not cheap. The middle burner griddle ( not shown) was xttra $80 iirc.

I bought a gas (propane) Whirlpool over a couple of years ago from Lowes.

Basic unit and works well.

You can definitely start one of the burners with a lighter.

I'm offgrid which is why I bought a propane unit. I was bummed to discover that the bottom oven uses like 500w of power while it's heating up to temp.

I really wanted to go induction again but after this extended power outage (today is officially a week and it might be another week before we're restored) I'm strongly considering going gas. I don't have natural gas running to my house but I do have a 500 gallon propane tank and all it's fueling are my on demand water heater and the gas logs we only use on occasion. That 500 gallon tank literally lasts us years. We've owned the house three and a half years and I think it was about half full when we bought it and I've only had it filled once. So I think we have plenty of capacity to add a gas range.

That looks really nice. I'll look at it a bit tomorrow. The price doesn't hurt me if the quality is there.

What made you go that route? Once you get it up and running, report on the ability to fire up a burner with a match:confused:

Go gas for sure. My gas range and fireplace came in handy two years ago when Raleigh needed extra power during that winter cold snap so they shut our power off on Christmas eve/day during 12* temps. Gas is also pretty awesome to cook on IMO

IMHO: I would go with anything GE makes. The Monogram line is top-dog. IMHO: Keep it simple and avoid the IOT thingy crap.
I am getting ready to pull the trigger on a Monogram double wall oven. Might kick back and hire someone to install it. :smokin::smokin::smokin::smokin:

We have a kitchen aid. It works. All gas.

Would not take anything GE even if it was free. Monogram is absolute a rip off. We had mongram and we had the next tier down Cafe both absolutely suck as appliances.

This guy gets it. GE appliances are garbage these days.

I have a Kitchenaid dual fuel, gas top, electric oven...has been ok, little slow boiling a pot of water but great with frying pans, there's some logic error with the oven where the broiler will get stuck on after pre-heat sometimes if you open the door during pre-heat, but the thing keeps trucking none the less.

I wouldn’t worry about match light. I just verified our current newer model NG stove will match light. It will be some time before I finish the indoor appliances on my house build where the Thor is going. Still have to pass framing. But I am looking forward to that stove.

I think I found the Thor via web search but not certain. I got tired of the limited offerings at Homo Deep and Lowe’s and the total lack of knowledge by any employees.

Thor is cheap too. Made in China 5 year expected life.

I'm all about buying open box shit. Just bought an open box Bosch dishwasher and my entire appliance suite in CO was open box. Deep discounts on barely used stuff or display models. Sign me up.

Best fridge I've ever owned was am open box for $100 more than the cheapest model. Scratch on the front door and I had to provide my own door handle screws. Massive discount

Damned thing works great :smokin:

Edit: best buy seems to be fairly low volume appliances as far as big box stores go and they've consistently had the best scratch and dent sales

Interesting.... I am replacing a crap Viking oven. MIght have to take another look at Kitchenaid. I really need a fucking oven to sear a prime-rib; 500 plus degrees is a must! I need a double oven with french-doors on top. I really hate Viking, Wolf and Sub-Zero. They can go fuck themselfs.
All the GE stuff I have owned in the past has been stupid simple rock solid. :homer::homer::homer::homer:

All my open box stuff in CO came from Best Buy.

There isn’t a gas stove made anywhere on this planet with a “ 5 year expected life”. Sorry. That’s just plain dumb.

My electric oven will max out at 500*, seems like that should be easy for a gas oven

I've had an LG since 2010 and momma uses it daily.

It's got the simple display at the back.

Only issues it's had are the knobs are a little fragile and will get broken when your ham-fisted mother-in-law cooks at the house. Stupid knobs are too large and made of plastic.

I just ordered a bag full of replacements from some aftermarket seller.

Also, I believe nearly all ovens now use the same "glow rod" The part numbers are different, but they're all the exact same. We burn them out every couple years. It's only about a 10 minute job to change, but it pisses me off that it's not something my mother could do. Those things should be no more difficult than changing a light bulb.

The way they work is the just glow orange hot, just like an incandescent bulb, and catches the gas on fire. The reason they're safe (they replace old timey thermocouples) is because they're connected in series with the gas-flow valve. If there's enough current flowing to open the gas valve, then there's enough "glow" to catch the gas on fire.

Not a terrible system, just make sure you have spare ones on hand from the cheapest amazon seller because that sonofabitch will burn out on you Christmas day.

Well, that's interesting about Viking Wolf and Sub-Zero.

Thought those were pretty good stuff.

I really wanted to get an "industrial" restaurant range, and might still when the kitchen gets redone.

We just bought this about a month ago. Very happy with it and it should outlast me. We went to several stores and must have looked at every range on the market.

We have this one as well, can be lit with a match and it comes with a propane conversion kit. 5 years old and still works like new.

That looks like LED controls/gauges/panel. Confirm or deny !! 🫡

Any stove with a manual control knob for the burners will light with a match. The ovwn will not light with the power out.

Correct, and worth noting is that the oven only requires minimal 120 volt power to run. I think the ignitor draws a couple amps (and this draw is constant the entire time the oven runs).
