A few more 4Runner photos in the next post

All of the other Colorado trip pictures are here https://suntothenorth.blogspot.com/2...-colorado.html

Its cool that you are getting out there, but mods? What Mods?

I was thinking the same thing. Apparently a roof rack and hi lift are mods. :lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

Calm down girls, the mods are bolt ons but do enhance the 4Runner. Since the forum has a silly picture limit it will take a while to share so keep your panties smoothed out.

I bought the 4Runner new as a replacement for my 2005 4Runner. That one had 240,00 miles on it. I had installed an ARB air locker in it but the 2018 has the factory e-locker.

Suspension is RadFlo with custom valving for the 4Runner

taller stronger rear coils to handle cargo weight plus the trailer's weight

Stronger lower control arms

Front swaybar spacer blocks

IMG_5654-2.jpg

rear axle bumpstop spacer blocks and i replaced the swaybar end links with longer models. Will see if I have that picture.

IMG_5618-1.jpg

The longer end links compared to stock. I am still looking for some that are longer and also have the articulated bolt.

I know the ladies like running boards for their high heels but the old saying is "Running boards? Either unbolt them or tear them off"

My bolt on sliders were custom made by a guy that used to make them for Cruisers (Hanna Quality)

ARB compressor under the hood

Second battery under the hood too along with a CTEK 250 charge controller.
The Platinum Die Hard had a really long life but was replaced with ne of the newest CostCo AGMs

more modification porn

CTEK battery manager installed on top of the fuse box.

IMG_5951-1.jpg

If I had to go purchase a new unit I think the RedArc offerings are now better

Modified factory rear power panel for the two way radio and fridge outlets

IMG_5811-1.jpg

swapped the factory donuts for Falken's

IMG_5828-1.jpg

Total Chaos A-arm skids

IMG_6836-1.jpg

RCI skids for the engine, trans, transfer case

IMG_7077-1.jpg

The roof rack was made by African Outback and used to be imported by Slee. It has the sunroof hatch and is all aluminum construction.

I like that it can be configured however I want to for the needs of the trip. I have a full railing and a 1/3 railing that can be bolted on as needed.

For all the scenic wheeling and car camping in CO these runners are pretty damn comfortable.

I added in a small deck for the dash gadgets: InReach, fridge temp display, radar detector, etc

Day-3-1.jpg

I also wired in additional ignition switched USB outlets to help tame the clutter

Dash1-2-1.jpg

I added in a ScanGuage II and may move it over to the center deck some day

20180318_101345.jpg

These extra USB outlets in the glove box are always on, powered by the Aux battery

USB-1.jpg

Since Toyota won't allow the factory Nav to be accessed while in motion I wired in a bypass switch

IMG_7459-1.jpg

The pinheads at Toyota still install filament bulbs for interior lighting. Those are gone now, replaced by 2 color LEDS

Most bugs can't see red light so it helps cut down on the lights being bug magnets.

Looks good man. Bought the wife the same color 17 trd new with the kdss. Whenever she finally wears out the factory tires I plan on doing some stuff to it. I've got a 60 sitting on the side of the house begging to go under it but I kinda just want to leave it ifs and make it more of a expedition style rig. How do you like the radflows? I was probably gonna go king or ads when If I don't hack it off.

I'll have to create a separate thread for the trailer. I have had it ten years since I bought it new and it has gone a lot of great places with me

I found this picture of the suspension's articulation and it does okay for an IFS sled

I love the RadFlos. I am lucky that their factory is just a few miles away. I ran the suspension for 12 years on my old 4Runner. When I sold the old one I pulled everything out and re-installed stock suspension. I took the RadFlo parts to the factory and had them freshen the seals and recharge them. They are doing great on the new 4Runner.

BTW, the custom valving was designed by Andres Engelbrecht of Toyota 120 and can be ordered by request at RadFlo

While not super hardcore, I bet you get out more often than the rest of us here.

Nice build, seems nicely equipped for exploring! I like that anderson connector outlet you have in the back. I didn't know those existed.

I highly recommend the Falken AT3W tires as replacements. The best compromise between highway and offroading. If you want a more aggressive all-terrain tread pattern go for the Goodyear Duratracs.

The silver color is great for hiding all of the pin striping. Unless you are up close you can't tell my paint got trashed.

Thanks!

This year I have been to Coyote Flat, Death Valley twice, Nevada, Colorado and a slew of day trips. I'll be heading back to Colorado soon for two weeks of off roading. See my blog for lots of pictures http://suntothenorth.blogspot.com/

Nevada for ten days

Yeah, there are thousands of hard core poser Rubicon and Gladiators around here that have no scratches underneath, not even from mall parking lots. They spend three times as much (credit card) money as I did but never come close to the off-pavement miles I put on.

More details of the 4Runner build in these posts http://suntothenorth.blogspot.com/20...e-trailer.html

Anderson powerpole store is here (but also watch Ebay)

I'll have to read up on them. Was thinking about trying the patigonas, a buddy says they are the quietest mud style tire he's ever bought. But don't know how fast they will ware .

watch the scangauge for battery drain... I had two gauges across 3 vehicles (with standard and ISO-only connectors) and I couldn't keep a battery... usually dead after a week and always had a weird constant draw. Guess it's not unheard of. They're sitting on my bench now.

Ironically, the two much older gauges I used to have never had these issues.

I put Falken's on my wife's 2015 SR5P - really happy with them.

Thanks for the link on the anderson stuff, although after posting all those trips I think I hate you now! I take it your retired? I can't wait to get to that point in my life!

Kevin

Oh no! A newbie getting his first "I hate you"? Awesome, lol.

A while back I thought I was retiring but some folks won't leave me alone. However, I no longer adhere to a 40 hour schedule of any sort. Even during the old days, that company gave me 33 days of vacation so I still went offroad a lot. Now it is easier to leave on whatever day is needed and stay out for longer than a week.

Thanks! I will clarify that I bought my Scanguage many years back and then sent it back for new firmware to make it a model 2. Maybe I have the "good" hardware? I've never had it affect the starter battery. I have noticed that if I slap a charger on the starter battery the Scanguage seems to "wake up" and attempt to read the OBD bus.
