My folks are road tripping from CO to WI to pick up a new 5th wheel. Their 2012 bone stock 6.7 shows "Exhaust filter full. Reduced power. See dealer". When it hit 80% yesterday I had him try running it @ 2500 for a while on the highway to see if that help clear it out. It bought them some time, but the numbers kept climbing. Is there anything they can do to get home or are they going to get jacked at the dealer for a new DPF to get home? My P-pump 12V doesn't have all this new fangled emissions stuff, so I'm not savvy with the best approach. Thanks!

No experience with this, but found this video:

Maybe it will help, good luck...

Yeah, that's what he tried. No change, but they weren't ever in limp mode. Maybe a sensor? I'm hoping with the load they're pulling it'll heat up and regen. If they can make it home maybe it's time for the truck to get a tune.

You'll need to pull the codes from the PCM, which this video may help:

If tthat doesn't work, they they should be able to pull the codes out at just about any car part stores that have scanners to use, usually for free while in their parking lot.

And hoping someone else will pop in to this thread with better insight. Good luck...

Thanks. They started ther way home today. It sounds like it'll drop to 80% full overnight, then creep up after driving a couple hours. My old man said it hit 90% today but stayed there. They still have 15 hours of driving pulling the rig so we'll see how it goes tomorrow.

reads thread as my ppumped 12valve smokes out a city block, not giving a shit about a filter :flipoff2:
I thought that's what I said? Old 96 is running as clean as ever. I'm too old and too cheap to roll coal.
Control...alt...DELETE
That's my recommendation as well. If everything goes well, they should make it home tomorrow. What's the go to tuner? I've seen H&S makes one with it already loaded.

If there are any companies in the US still helping to remove it, it's only a matter of time before the EPA shuts them down as they've been cracking down on it for some time now. In my opinion, it's not worth the hassle. Fix the problem and move on.

Are there companies still risking that ? Making those kind of tuners?
All the good stuff is sold out of Canada or the islands. Importing it is the trick.

RaceMe tuners out of Canderp was last one a buddy of mine used.. Shipping was easy and non eventful.

With that said, the DPF itself is almost never the problem. It's a fueling issue, or a bad egt sensor, or a wiring issue. It takes skilled diagnostics to pinpoint the failure. It's not a problem to go willy nilly throwing parts at.

I'd add air leaks in the charge piping as well being super common.

If I were OP giving guidance to parents, I'd just fix the issue and move on as well without deleting. I'm imagining older folks, pulling and RV distances without a ton of mechanical knowledge. Finding service on the road is getting harder and harder with deleted trucks since the penalties are so harsh from the EPA. Everyone's experiences with tuners and shops from just 2-3 years ago is wildly outdated now in the current landscape of emissions.

I tell all my school district customers to have their bus drivers drive it like they stole it, don't baby it. An automatic and computer control means it's really really hard to break stuff anymore with the skinny pedal. Driving it hard means the emissions stuff is getting up to temp. Something else I see alot of on school buses is little short trips, not good for the after treatment. My districts that take their short trip buses out on the highway every week or so for a 20 or so minute drive at highway speeds have a lot less after treatment issues.

It will need to go in and get properly diagnosed because there are so many things up stream of the DPF that can cause it to have issues.

Weird. Looks like they only accept PayPal. Is that a scam site?
