The 4l80e behind the 6.0 has been shifting hard since 2011ish and still trucking along 😂😂

my 6.0 2500 got a rebuilt 4l80e around 200k from PO.
It appears based on market observations that 200-220k is not an uncommon end of service life for them.

I have been pretty lucky as of right now I have that one with 257k untouched miles and an Allison with 321k untouched miles (behind a stock for the most part Duramax). But I wouldn’t say that is the norm. I also had near 200k on whatever transmission the Jeep Liberty had and pulled way too much with it at times. I also do a lot of self shifting around town to keep it from gear hunting as much in stop and go stuff.

I reached out to a dealer near Rochester NY seeing how much they would shave off their asking price.

This truck is mint, but it has 122,000 miles on it, no Car Fax and they want $20k.

It’s been sitting at their location for at least 5 months. They won’t budge on price at all. Freaking crazy they’d rather sit on it than move it, but whatever.

We're at the tipping point. When people were overpaying for trucks dealers were overpaying for trades. One side had to get stuck with it in the end and the dealers aren't ready to sell at a loss yet

Now that inventory is filling up again I've seen dealers have two of the pretty much same truck on the lot with the new one being priced the same as the used one.

They’ll sell it to someone that shops locally. I’m looking at a day or two driving to get what I want. So screw em. I’ll keep shopping.

a minty truck in the rust belt will probably sell once road salting is done for the season.

And the ass for that seat might be at the ford service department now looking at an $11k bill for a CP4 that ate itself and took out the entire fuel system, 'due to water in fuel' and will be on his way to your used dealer lot after posting bail for assaulting the service advisor.

You might be right. Still hard to think about paying more for this truck than it sold used for in 2012-2018

I like the spec.

Man, right before COVID I tried buying a ccsb 8.1 with 54,000 miles on, spotless, dark green color for $18k.

Dealer just wasn’t interested in taking $500 PayPal to hold it for me until the weekend. It was a 9 hour drive.

Since we're already off on the tangent I'm looking at a 2003 Chevy 2500, extended cab long bed, Duramax, 4x4, lt, 67 thousand miles. Supposedly zero rust but I haven't been able to confirm. Guys asking 25k ish. Relatively speaking it seems like a pretty not bad starting point, right?

At this point, seems like a fair price.

Off topic:

6.0’s outnumber 8.1’s like 20 to 1.

I have a mint, no rust, lb7 CCSB with 5th wheel (hidden). 35s brand new (100 miles). 4x4 and new paint (good paint, not cheap). New headlights. DD it. Newer spray in Bedliner. Driver seat needs a bit of help. Tuned right with DSP5 switch. Lift pump. Brand new, not reman injectors. Basically everything you could ask for out of a truck. 20k 😬

Barely broke in with 375k miles :flipoff2:

That's a pretty little trunk on that :flipoff2::flipoff2::flipoff2:

Eclb is a less desirable configuration in the broader market and so will command less money as a general rule. ( I’d trade my ccsb for eclb because it’s a tow rig/hauler. But longbeds are quite rare )

But any pre-emission diesel with those miles would probably sell to the right sucker for $30k+ in very good condition. In ccsb that would likely fetch high 30’s.
You should be able to get out of it without losing a dime if the condition checks out and you decide it’s not for you.

8.1 pickups are quite rare at least to see come up for sale. It seems suburbans and avalanches outnumber 8.1 pickups listing by at least 10:1
I don't think I've ever actually seen an 8.1 pickup in person, only suburbans. I've never seen a manual trans gm hd either, only Dodge and ferd

Didn’t you just get done saying expiditions were garbage because they aren’t on the market?

I saw 2 or 3 of them go through the 2 localish salvage auctions over a period of 3 or 4 years watching pretty closely 5-800 cars a week between the 2 competitors and I bought one of them.

No that working theory was Expeditions with over 250k on the odometer aren’t on the market. At least not nearly as commonly as a 250k Tahoe/ suburban.
So gm might actually be the most dependable longest lasting trucks on the road. :stirthepot:

Isn’t that the truth. I trust it as much as one with sub 100k. At that point everything is breaking down anyway that is rubber and will need to be gone through. Atleast I know this one won’t leave me stranded for a hot minute.

Searching for production data yielded this, which sounds quite plausible. And if true, then it actually is 1 in 20 with 8.1 but the other 19 include 6.0 and duramax.

I've owned a dozen or so. The 05-06 is harder to come by.

I've personally seem two, and bought them both. 04 CCSB 4x4 I sold to a HGTV celebrity, then was posted on here since then. Then a 02 RC 4x4 I sold to a buddy, which he was against for the money and instantly fell I love.

ZF6 all day, allison makes them lazy.

Got a 8.1 eclb truck that has been driven 800 miles last year. :homer:

I would looooooove for it to be a ZF6 unit. They're rare as shit but IIRC someone here has a 8.1/ZF6 combo truck.

Sigh Thats bait. Ohh well. Couldn't possibly be that unlike the gm product it didn't need a full interior/exterior rebuild or a new trans for the third time and therefore they kept it and are still driving it.... No couldn't possibly be. They must be wrong for not wanting to buy a new 4l60 every 2 years.:homer: Unless it is a three valve. You can have that abortion. Here have a jellybean... I know how you like them:lmao:
