2005 Escalade EXT (aka GMT 800 argument thread)

well, ackchyually... your examples are awd and not 4wd 🤓 :clown:, :flipoff2: {unless your going deep into throwback land to subaru loyale/DL/GL and Honda wago-van with the shifter mounted push button...}

I've also owned several MDX's get center diff/tcases replaced to address whining conditions within 200k. {much-less their transmissions made of eggshells which can make a 4l60 seem robust} :stirthepot:
Don't forget Ford/Volvo's PTU (bevel gear/transfer caseish thing).

A goodwrench reman 4l60e is 2700, probably 2400 at the counter if you're not a douche.

A local rebuild on the bench should be 1500-2k

Jegs has a reman for 1700. It's not a huge expense considering new half tons are 50k

Mine personally went 186k with no known maintenance, bought used at 164k and previous owner said he had no record of fluid changes. and my friends went 175k with zero maintenance and regular towing, original owner

It's no 4l80e, or 6r140, or zf6, but if it moves a 5500lb truck around for 15 years and costs 3k to get the rest of the pile to 320k, that's pretty reasonable cost of ownership.

*I liked them a lot more 3 years ago when they were $1600 at the dealer counter
I had $3000ish into having the transmission rebuilt in our 2005 Yukon 1500 (5.3L, 4x4) in Aug 2022 at around 180k miles, that was dropping it off at a shop and them rebuilding it and replacing the transmission cooler lines.
A coworker had around $2200 into dropping/installing the transmission himself in his 2007ish Chevy 2500 pickup and having someone rebuild it ($1700ish for the rebuild and $500 in parts and fluids putting it back together)

get a 2wd 2500 and all the problems disapear.
Shit ive been saying for 10 years.

Exactly why i held out so hard for a 2500 burban. Yeah it still has the 246 tcase but its already been rebuilt/swapped out so im good for a while at least. Now i just have to live with the garbled french/spanish mish mash of dash display in a veh that doesnt seem to have any sort of language selection function cause bare bones package no steering wheel control buttons.

I think this guy's shooting for the moon with his pricing, but no doubt, someone will pay a number that starts with a 2 for it...

Someone want to buy my bosses 2005 2500 burb with the 8.1L? Good mechanical condition 4x4 170k-ish miles. Clearcoat on hood and roof is shot. Good Michelin tires. Buy it then you too can argue about the GMT trucks/SUVs!!!!!1 :homer:

Leather of that vintage left a lot to be desired. 20 years later it's hard as a rock or ripped apart.

The cloth seats aged much more gracefully

The one old car I'd shell a lot of money for would be an ex-gov, low mile 8.1 burb with the work truck package and vinyl flooring.

I know they exist cause I've seen one for sale like 5 years ago, but that's rarer than a unicorn.

I'll have to look when I get home. I think you can hold the trip button in and it will let you change language and a few other things.

Paid $15k, had sub 50k miles and mint. Secret Service and Texas it's whole life. People who don't know all thought I way overpaid, people who do know realize I bought a hell of a truck for $15k. With 4.10s it's a peach to drive. Did basic PM when I got it, 285 BFG per old man request, shocks. Only things left to do are tint and airbags.

He was looking at excursions for months, they were way overpriced or so ratted you'd spend $15k on recon and still have a 250k chassis.

iv never seen a base model.
IIRC the 'burb 8.1 was not Allison, was 4L80. ?

4L8*5*. I don't know what the difference is.

Comedian Andrew "Dice" Clay was to perform 3 shows in Poughkeepsie, NY a while back... Rumor is that he asked for a stretch limo for a ride to the event, only an Escalade showed up which he promptly declined-

Rubber floor mats, no steering controls, only the dri er seat has basic power function, cloth seats, non dig heat controls.

I would love to have a 261 tcase but ive never seen one in a tahoe/burb.

I'm thinking vinyl seats and floors, only known LS or LT in the 2500 burbs, no W/T as bebop mentioned.

I was in a toxic relationship with my 03-04 ~100K mile quick fix/flip Avalanche as well- there was a marathon saga of a thread on it at the old place.

I got it sorted enough to be somewhat confident that it would make it through a test drive without the dash lighting up like Christmas and passed her down the line. { The landscaper I did a partial labor trade plus enough cash to get back what i put into it sale with no longer accepts my calls but wasn't displeased for at least 8 months or so..}

I know millions of good 03-06's exist, but i've played with fire enough to accept that the universe strongly dictates that i belong in the 99.5-02 sandbox.
Sounds like my last JKUR :lmao: It lOVED limp mode.

Rare as shit, I even struggled finding a pic of a half ton version on google :

Do we need to put out a wellfare check on BillyBronco who offered up his bosses truck and then ghosted within mere minutes?

Did one of the gmt800 haters take him out/ take him hostage?
IMG_3966.png

Or maybe Could he just be outside of cell/internet range disposing of lingering evidence of what became of his boss that he presently no longer needs this truck? 🤔

$8k IIRC from previous conversations.

Somewhere around Austin, TX

Should I text and let billybronco know you're stalking him:flipoff2:
nope, its a fair price but not a fly&drive my happy ass half way across the country price. Unless someone wants to drive it 1200 miles east for fuel $, Filthy McChevy might want to pickup the ball on the internet stalking here where i'm tapping out though.

1200 miles in an 8.1 is $1700 in fuel.

:flipoff2:
if we assume a hopeful 10 mpg with the aero efficiencies of a stock height burb, that would make regular unleaded... $14/gal in landlocked america?!?! I knew they lacked seaports for import of goods and services, but that's some wild shit! :homer:

Relax, lol. I don’t live on here. Somewhere around $8k I think. My boss is lazy when it comes to selling things. He keeps saying “I need to sell it” but doesn’t do anything to actually sell it. He has been threatening to sell it for a year or so. He doesn’t use it anymore other than to drive it once a month to keep the fluid moving. I will probably end up selling it for him in a month when the tax refunds hit. I will probably list for $8500 see what the interest is and then take the first $7k.

In the future when you want to get ahold of me just go through my secretary “Trindu” :flipoff2:
