2005 Escalade EXT (aka GMT 800 argument thread)

Mines just humming along but doing old truck shit. Needs the short hard lines from master cyl. to distribution block, 8 inches long. So before breaking the system open I checked to make sure brake bleeders are free before changing lines, bleeders broke off in the rear.

I know I'll need the bleeders changed out, will have to weld nuts to them or I think I can change the short master cyl lines out and compress the pistons in the rear calipers to reverse bleed the system and push the air into the master. I'll buy the calipers and try the weld nut and the reverse bleed. If not I'll just swap them. If I can fill the lines it shouldn't be much air to push out by compressing the 4 rear pistons in the calipers. I'll try the pistons, then try the weld nut trick, then replace calipers if it all goes to hell.

Yeah it's a 3500, I like the front ends better on the 2000-02s but I like the seats more on the 03+ ones. It's a toss up for me and none of it matters that much really

03+ get the 6 speed trans vs the 5 speed on the 2000-02.
On an 05 you might have the individual gear selector too.
I'd say that's an upgrade.

tapshift was added to the duramax/allison trucks in 06.
It would be a huge bonus for the though because there's a few gears between '3' and (O)'D' as the only selectable ranges at the top end within the factory column shift; (i frequently wish for a way to hold 4th gear on my 5 speed)

when researching this i did discover that it can be added for $350 :smokin:
(edit: looks like the 01-02 5 speed allison requires a re-flash )

I wasted money on at least 3 calipers across 2 trucks because of the bleeder snapping off. May have been 5. They were cheap enough from RockAuto I didn't even bother trying to repair them

Told myself I'd crack them every now and then to break them free. I haven't done that on the current truck, I'm sure they're locked solid now too :mad3:

New bleeders get coated with grease at install. I don't know if it helps at all but it hasn't hurt

did you refer them to the GM TSB (GM Technical Service Bulletin 02-07-30-051)

I assume someone out there would probably do it by mail
My dealer told me it was too old for them to implement.

Torch and kroil, I give em a few heat cycles before even trying now.

Yeah they're either lazy or retarded or both. That's a stupid easy 2 or 3 hour ticket to install the shifter to the column and download/install the cal file from gm. Might have to call tac line to get authorization but bill that into the ticket too. Shifter should take 45 minutes and programming should take 5, easy gravy ticket all day. Dumbasses.

Where are you located ?

Sorry, I'm on the jap side of the aisle now so I lost my gm programming hook up anyway.

12k mile 2002 8.1 2500 avvy ( 5.5k as of sept 2021 per the vehicle history report)

Awesome. The absolute worst of a truck and suv possible.:flipoff2:

Still humming along with some sort of 65+ vibration somewhere, brakes stopped weeping, and it appears to have stopped leaking oil, according to the drip pan in the driveway.

Yes it has oil.

Drove it like 1000 miles last week. cruise set at 75. 16 mpg.

Clicks/clunks when downshifting or upshifting at slow speeds. probably needs u joints.

not much argument there, but if it were either a suburban or a truck it'd probably bring $40-50k; but because its the less useful and uglier inbred cousin of the two its skating in under 30k.

Grease the splines on the output shaft of the tcase and slip yoke.

Anyone have a good solution for headlight replacement/ improvements on GMT 800s?

I have an 04 GMC sierra that's lights are super cloudy. Id love to upgrade them to legit projectors for better light but don't really want to do the work of a retrofit. It seems like most of the options or their for deep in replacements are cheap China crap?

Even though I don't love led DRL look, id slap these in if they were decent:homer: But no idea....

they look like china ebay parts- the fact that the fitment lists both denali and non- denali is highly suspect to me since denali housings are differently shaped.

I haven't been able to find a set of projectors that isn't a ricer/fast&furious special with halos & shit

OEM denali were projector housings, but you have to swap to a denali grill with the kidney bean/teardrop turn signals.
