2005 Escalade EXT (aka GMT 800 argument thread)

Sorry to butt in, but since this is thr gmt800 guru thread...

need new wheels and tires for my 2004 sierra quadrasteer. It has rollers now on tacoma wheels (hows that even possible)

Cant seem to find stockers for sale anywhere, so whats the advice? 265/70r18 going to be a little big assuming?
They're everywhere type 1500 wheels chevy or gmc wheels.

Well in Southwest of US, they are

any tahoe/yukon/suburban/silverato/sierra/ Denali 6 lug wheel should work up to 2014 ( maybe up to 2019 too, not sure about offset on the 14-19) if you want it stock.

265/65/18 would be stock equivalent size so you're not far off as long as the hub surface clears and the wheel seats flat against the rotor you probably won't kill a busload of nuns. you might snap lug studs in the long run if youre rough on it.

Not the best color but not a w/t and maybe worth a look at shipping if you can stomach gold-ish tan on tan:

Cig burns In door cards would be an odor question I’d ask about but an ozone machine is $60 if odor returns after a few months. And yes cloth door card inserts were fitted in most the early gmt800 leather ec trucks.

Just bought this. Thanks for looking out, WTF? ! :smokin:

That's a nice truck, but also kind of an odd duck. I've never seen an LS with leather or the nicer rear view mirror like that. I'd bet money it was a special order

Ls with leather wasn’t uncommon at all and autodimming compass mirror was common in cloth trucks as well.

It seems like it was a free for all with most options being available on both ls and lt trims but only lt got seat heaters and the super comfy 4 way power lumbar / power recline seats.
Suburbans got really wacky with ls with moonroof and leather

I've got a 2001 LS with leather and that rearview mirror. It also has heated seats.

This motivates me to finish my quadrasteer

it started up for the first time in a while yesterday. Needs wheels and front clip assembled. But 150k mile 6.0 with a recent trans, runs great

Here trucks are worth the most. SUVs do not hold value near as well.

I wouldn’t be so sure about that;

And that’s something you’ll do often as the 31 gallon tank will get you about 250 miles between pump visits…

My dad bought this 91’ F150 off a buddy of mine near Raleigh. He flew down and drove home the same day. He turned down a $15,000 offer on it and has numerous other offers to buy when he’s ready to sell.

Guys just drool over rust free trucks here. I’m one of them.

You people are crazy as hell! I'll buy those burban and yukon trucks just to pull the engines for 2-2.5k and send the rust free bodies to the crusher.
Was about $800 till you tittie babies started buying all the toilet paper:flipoff2:

the issue driving these prices is the gmt900 makes a gmt800 feel like an s-class mercedes in terms of interior fit and finish and build quality. and the 15-20 suburban/yukon is substantially the same powertrain/suspension/ driving experience as a 900 but with a better but tighter space/feel interior and the 900 wasn't a significant improvement in ride quality over an 800. and the middle row seats/legroom and rear cargo area got progressively smaller through those next 2 iterations until the 2021 redesign.

so there's nothing truly worth spending money on until you're over $45k in the used market, and so $6k for a clean half ton gmt800 seems to be a relative bargain in the marketplace.

it's jaw dropping to me that they could window sticker this gmt900 escalade as their flagship offering starting around $80k with halfassed fake woodgrain decals on the trim bezels and a pep boys wood-look steering wheel cover doppleganger wheel then call it good and then go to the market knocking on 6 figures when heavily optioned while retaining a straight face.

I think it’s more reliability than anything. The GMT900 AFM/DOD issues are very apparent now. Everyone wants to go back to a drivetrain you can count on.

As far as I’m concerned, 2007 and AFM/DOD GM is pure trash.

I have an 09’ and 10’. Rattling piles if questionable reliability is all they are.

and 09+ has a 6l80e waiting to suck $5k out of your wallet for a rebuild.

Il be the first to say 800 > 900.

That being said, you have to think in terms of availability of the market. I've witnessed 900s hit 300k miles, relatively troubled free. Are they rattle traps with cracked dashes? Of course. But just like the 800 brotheren, cheap to gix.

Most of the DOD/AFM issues either fucked up by now, or you can tune and, in theory, solved the issue. So that wouldn't stop me. If you're bad with Lego, you can build a LS.

6L80 is a 200k trans when not operated by an idiot, so perfectly acceptable life span. Just sycks you have to refresh the tcm upon R&R.

The 14-18 GM are 'nicer' and shittier than previous generations. I fight electrical gremlins weekly on my wife's '15 dmax. It would've put us in the poor house if I didn't fix it mmyself. If it was a gasser, I'd would've punted it long ago

I have also seen 300k 900’s, but they’re not the norm. Mine is around 140k and it’s done. At least for me dealing with it. I bought it 11/16/2014 with 48k miles on it. Trans got rebuilt at 99k miles. Other odds and ends have been replaced, so it’s been a decent truck. It’s just no where what I would call quality.

Locally, I definitely see tons of 400’s and 800’s still on the road. Most of them used and beat are 300,000+ miles and still running. Probably not great, but still trucking.

I don’t know what the interiors are like. But the 900’s are CHEAP. My 4Runner is like a Bentley compared to these.

x2

22k for a 15-17 with 125k, AFM and tighter driver's seat or 3k for an 03 that might need a $1600 trans and some odds and ends to go 100k more miles in leg stretched comfort.

I'm 6'5" 230, cant get my legs straight in the newer ones. Good to go in the 800's The 20+ ones I actually have the seat a notch or two forward. But they're 70k

When it gets passed the gmt900 I don't know what they're called. ? Wife has a '17 tahoe, is that a gmt950? gmt1200?

And what are the new body style?

‘15-20 is what it’s called. Wikipedia says it’s some single letter and not gmt anymore. Edit; no it’s gmt K2xx.

21+ is gmt T1xx
