That bobbed 80 is badass.
Trey has done a lot to that 80. Wheeled with him a couple years ago before the bob.

Hit up windrock for the first time with a small group. Good times, that place is cool can't wait to go back. Ended up getting in over our heads and was out on the trail until midnight winching up cadilac hill, still fun! Probably could have made it up if it wasn't wet and sloppy. Nothing broke on my truck, only real carnage in the group was a blown head gasket on a 4runner but it was bound to happen any trip with that thing.

My truck is getting a new gas tank shortly, screw this 10gallon of capacity crap. Only other issue with the truck is the pax side hub was clicking when in free mode, but it stopped, but now it makes chirping noises when making a medium to hard left turn, so I have to take that apart and see what's going on in there.

Working on the new tank and building a better mount for this low range offroad skid plate. My skid/tank mounts are mangled and the bolts are mostly sheared off, additionally I don't like the fact this skid mounts to the tank itself. Here's my current idea for the driver's side, critiques please:

I'm going to run a gusset from the upper tab to the frame to keep that from bending. It's going to clear the spring even at full stuff.

Pax side mount will go up to the cross member, that's the easy one.

you thought about raising the tank? IIRC, JayK was able to raise his almost 3" with only a minor cut to a bed brace....

Didn't think about that, maybe after the fall wheeling season is done. Did he still have the factory spare tire carrier/crossmember installed?

ummm…

maybe?

look up “project adventure toy” on the interwebs. I’m pretty sure the build is out there in an old rag.

I found another person who raised the tank on an overlanding focused Tacoma forum, doesn't look too bad to pull off.

As for my mount, the skid didn't fall off wheeling or driving to/from the trail so that's a win, my tire does kiss it, so I'll need to flap it down, but nothing too bad. Goddamn I never thought having full fuel capacity and a working fuel gauge would be so great, it's like I'm in a totally new truck!!:lmao:

In order to not fuck up the carnage thread, I'll respond here.

What do they look for in inspections?

I thought you moved to America? :flipoff2:
I have a list but it varies I guess depending on the shop.

Likewise, communist Illinois didn't even have safety inspections outside of commerical vehicles! I have the front frame chop as well. In the mean time I'll slap some angle iron over the crease and wheel it some more until I decide what I want to do and what exactly failed/caused the bend. It sucks it was just me and my spotter and there isn't a picture of me bound up in there to figure out wtf was going on. Yes the taco frame is a rusty sheet metal POS, but it failed in a really weird spot IMO. For people not in the carnage thread:

Where it bent. You can see my slider mount as well. My slider didn't bend, which is odd the more I think about it.

I'd best most west coast guys don't even know what saftey inspections are  smog inspections make up for them though. :homer:

Buggy time.... :usa:

Hell most upper Midwest guys don't know what they are! It's a stupid east coast/south thing. Same as you, smog only.

This is the same rock that I high centered on that did all the damage posted earlier, but 10yrs ago when I flipped onto it while IFS.

Doing a brake job and found a broken main front leaf on the driver's side:

IMG_20211113_205204136.jpg

Impressive as I have been driving this all last week and was doing 80+ at one point:eek:

Time to find leafs that are similar dimension to the fj62 rears that these are, waggy springs are really damn close!!

Picked up some OME XJ rear leafs for free from a local. Thinking about adding the main leaf to my fj62 packs and see what happens. The springs are longer and would move my front axle 4" forward which would get my tires away from the firewall. Need to do some garage pondering....

I am Waiting on bezos to get his shit together and get his rinky dink operation to send me my bushings that were supposed to be here today, so I decided to yank the driver's side leaf out and see wtf is up.
I think I found the problem:

Judging by the rusty cracked it's been broke for a while. In the meantime while I wait to put it all back together, it's sit and look at the truck.

My new 0 lift fj62 rear leafs

Back on all 4's wasn't able to test drive it as I reused the copper washers after the brake job and big surprise ones leaking LOL!!

These sit nice and flat like my old ones!

Next weekend it's build new air bump pads and weld a plate over where I bent the frame and I'll be good to hit the trails again.

My bump pads are a dumpster fire but they should work. I was very close to cutting the entire front suspension off and redoing it all, but cooler heads prevailed.

Driver's side, holy fawk this took forever to make as it seemed everything was in the way.

IMG_20220227_132228703.jpg

Reattached my gas tank mount that was ripping off the frame.

I then took it wheeling and broke 15ft into the first trail of the day, I came down hard on a rock ledge and the front driveshaft went boom, so I drank beer and talked shit in a passenger seat the rest of the day because I didn't have a spare.
IMG_20220313_122953601.jpg

Getting it retubed locally so I can make an AOP trip at the end of the month. I bought another used shaft that will get upgraded to .250 wall and this one will be added to my spare parts. Not bad for 17yrs of wheeling on it, this is the first time it broke and it's only stock wall thickness.

Relocating my battery to the bed this week as my front fenders collapsing and I have a ratchet strap helping to hold it in right now.

I drove home from wheeling in a blizzard, and I was kinda worried that a rear auto locker + 2wd + tires I have never driven on in the snow would = crash. No crash, tires barely broke traction in snow 4"+ deep down to wet/icy roads. I did leave them aired down around 15psi for the drive home, don't know if that was a factor or not. The more I use these MT2s the more I love them in any condition I throw at the truck both on and offroad.

Moved the battery to the bed, leave it to trail gear to even fuck up building a battery box:mad3::
IMG_20220327_172016671.jpg

Used some bus bars where the battery used to be:
IMG_20220327_172940725.jpg

Went wheeling at AOP for 4days, I didn't break anything so fingers crossed I excised the demons out of the truck. As usual pics don't do it justice:

For you west coast guys the last 3 pics sum up east coast wheeling. Rocks and trees. It rained like crazy the day before and the park dried out pretty quick which was good.

Got some new body damage, no idea how I avoided blowing out the extra cab window on the tree that did that.
IMG_20220401_151008067.jpg

Drove it 5hrs there, wheeled for 4 days, and drove it home issue free:smokin:. Haven't had that in a few trips.
