'20 Tundra Gas Tank Skid, Good Bolt-On Version?

Hey All,

Buddy has a '20 Tundra, and just ~used up the factory tank grundle jewelry (cheesy factory TRD plastic "skid").
Farm truck / commuter, not a crawler so 10 ga or 1/8" steel is plenty, just need puncture guard for plastic tank.

My Toyota knowledge is ~10 years stale, so if anyone knows who makes good bolt-on tank skids for a '20 Tundra, I'm all ears.

I have the RCI engine skid on my 15 Tundra (I think the truck is nearly the same minus some cosmetic and electric gadgets). Its pretty solid, they make the trans and fuel tank skid too. Victory 4x4 makes the eng/trans and tank skids and also lower control arm skids too. There are probably more out there but these 2 are pretty beefy

Cool, thank you. I just looked at both - my findings:

The RCI ($295 coated) is 10 or 12 ga steel (26 vs. 38 gal.) - good for high-centering scrapes, not frequent bashing.
Good replacement for the factory plastic single-use "skid", and likely the best solution for my friend's needs.

The Victory 4x4 ($349 bare, $399 coated) is 3/16" steel - heavier, actual armor vs. ~deflector.
. . . but I know you can bend 3/16" easily enough, just more force involved to tweak & straighten.

For actual armor that will be used often, the Victory is worth the extra $100 + weight penalty.
For a non-disposable replacement for the factory TRD piece, the RCI is a sweet upgrade

Looks like the factory "skid" is $243 list / $174 actual, so . . . since disposable, fawk that.

Just know the springs are super soft, when my 38 gal tank is full, that side drops 1.375" mo weight is mo worser.

Good call - my buddy went ahead with the RCI, which "should" be 45 lbs. (maybe less, if that's shipping weight).

I'll have to remember to tell him that side looks like it's sagging . . . often :laughing:
 
Nah just leave some bricks on the other side of the bed
