Picked this little gem up today for the whopping price of $650.
It's got some title issues, in that it didn't come with one, but it's old enough that I have work arounds for that.
I've always wanted a two door and I've also lately wanted a beater than I can drive up to the mountains to go hiking and cruise down some fire roads.....my G37 isn't very good for that.
The body is like 8 or 9 out of 10 - there's one slight shoulder size dent in the passenger door that I'm pretty sure I can pop out by inflating a ball inside the door cavity, one maybe dime sized rust spot under the rear passenger window and the every so slight start of surface rust around the door and hatch knife edges. Paint is also amazing - only place there's even the start of a little clear coat failure is between the windshield and sunroof.
But, like just about every single two-door I've ever seen, the pans under the rear seats are completely rotted through. Not a huge deal - just gonna hammer some tin in there, weld, seal and paint it. Doesn't have to be pretty since you'll never see it.
The bad? At a minimum, it needs a head gasket. Possibly a complete head. The guy I bought it from said it started blowing coolant out the exhaust and when it started mixing the oil he parked it. Oil is a little milky, but obviously wasn't run long. I see these at the local junkyard regularly so worst case I'll grab a head the next time one pops up. The VG is pretty bullet proof so I don't have much concern about it being completely toast.
I need to get someone to run a carfax to see how far back it goes. There are records in the glove box showing it's been local to me since about '02, but the body is way too nice to have been here much before that. Most of them are completely rotted out by now.
Even had the original manual.
This is just a place holder. I won't have time to tear in to it for a couple weeks, but the plan now is to just get the engine back in shape, throw some 31's on it and cruise. Thought I'm half tempted to make it a little sleeper and throw a pair of lockers in it.
