Eh, I like the idea of the splitter. That and it keeps most people who are going to steel the truck confused with three peddals and two main stick shifts, not including the three for the transfercases. So there is that.I really think to get better mpg your going to be looking for a trans with OD, maybe a ZF5 swap or even a 4r100 if wanted to stay auto. Even with smaller tires the OD would keep rpms down lower @70 than what your currently turning.
Edit: might be ahead money wise after selling the splitter and current setup to then just swap in newer drivetrain at same time as axle swap.
Thanks! It's a work in progress, but it's getting there.Cool truck
Yeah, I'm not going to expect anything good. I know when I get a new engine, I'll most likely be going with a 408 stroker and a low end torque cam that will make the mpg even worse. especially since I know I'll enjoy the sounds it makes when I step on it. And I'll probably end up going efi with all the change in elevation here in NM.IMO, Unless you do mostly highway miles at constant speed an OD trans won't help fuel usage. Height, big tires and weight are the issues.
I get 5 mpg, or 1 mile per $. so 7.5 is pretty good

I went and looked at the rear brakes this weekend. When I took the passenger side drum off, it was basically new in there. The rear brakes just needed to be adjusted correctly. They were pretty much barely touching when the brake peddal was mashed all the way in. After adjusting them correctly, the e-brake finally works and the brake pedal is much stronger. So that's a good thing. I now have a complete rebuild kit for the rear drums when I forget to release the e-brake next time. HA! Well, except for the drums, but I'm sure those arn't difficult to replace. A lot easier than the rotors. Now on to tightening the AC line behind the glovebox and re-routing the fuel line away from the engine to make sure I'm not vaporizing the fuel as it tries to go to the carb.
