What's new

1968 Ford F-250 Prerunner Build

Yeah I'd agree that even 60' away you'll get dust... especially from grinding and welding. I've been known to tape furnace filters to box fans and use them to pull dirty/ dusty/ contaminated air away from my work space while also filtering the air so my furnace doesn't just blow the shit around
The shop is looking great though!
The pre- runner is looking bad ass, can't wait to see it moving real fast through the chop!

Ok so no updates on the Ford since been doing stuff to get the shop ready to go. I bought and installed a 2nd 2 post lift as well and installed my atlas 12k lift. Got them both wired up and working. Now to organize some more stuff in the shop and find new homes for a few tools. Also found a good deal on the Komatsu Forklift that needed starter rebuilt, Tilt cylinders resealed, Sidce shift cylinder resealed and 1 new hydraulic hose for the side shift cylinder

Well still no updates but if you guys want to come check out the place and this truck doing a grand opening shop party. Also about 1 hr to the hammers lakebed as well so you can make a weekend out of it. Gonna start getting hot around this time but hopefully the weather cooperates and keeps the temp down.

4 month bump, any updates?

And :flipoff2: everyone who gets pissed about the non-update notification, I'm curious.

Good timing was just gonna post tonight. Got it moved and on the lift today. Finishing up a customer project this week and then back on this. Gonna focus on it until it's all together and needs wiring. Had to make some support pieces out of box tube and angle to be able to lift it easily and not have them in the way for reassembly.

Started reassembly on it this past week. Installed turbo setup. Mounted relocated coils. Water pump and accessory brackets installed. Ran pressure line for turbo as well. Also started to install some of the brake lines with the swagelock ball valves to close front or rear brakes I case I have a problem and need to get back down the road. Also every soft line on the brake system will be the same length and -3AN so carrying a spare or two won't be an issue and will have them in the truck.

Now one item I am having trouble finding is the plug on back of the ac compressor. Factory denso GM compressor from an 04ish Silverado 6.0. I believe it's the high pressure switch plug. I got the plug for clutch already but not for the 2 wire plug on back of compressor.

Got the correct intake gaskets and a few hoses to continue hooking stuff up. Installed intake, the cold side of intake from turbo and air to water intercooler. Didn't have blow off valve positioned yet but have a good spot for it now so cut the hole to weld on the v band fitting to mount that. Started hooking up some vacuum lines. Also hooked up the power steering feed and return lines. Made the turbo drain hose to oil pan but really need another fitting for the 10AN drain fitting from turbo to hose. So ordered that and will install that once it arrives.

Painted the pass beam and got that back on the truck. Final assembled that and torqued driver side beam hardware . Used revlock red thread locker and copper antisieze on all the shanks of the bolts as well as between mis spacers and heims/uniballs. Then started installing the radiator. Rubber under it to protect against rubbing on metal. Installed lower radiator silicone pieces and aluminum tube. Started installing upper hose and realized I needed to add a 45 to the upper aluminum piece. So ordered that and will weld that on when I weld on the bov v band flange onto intake tube.

Got the air box mounted and hooked up to turbo. Need another 3.5" t bolt clamp as well as a 3/8" aluminum barb to weld onto that so I can plumb it into the crankcase breather I have. Bead rolled the ends of all the aluminum pieces in radiator and intake tubes.

Donaldson air filter D080026 it has dual filters which restrict the flow but remove the pre filter and flows plenty and filters very good. It's a tractor filter lots of desert guys run since it's easy to mount and is much cheaper than a UMP. The UMP filters for a v8 you need to run 2 to flow enough.

I bought a ump filter housing that fits Donaldson filter elements, but it's cylindrical and too tall laying down to fit under my hood. This oval cross section might be the answer.

Thanks!

More mocking up stuff up front. Using an air to water intercooler so I got the fitting to install in that for the 3/4" hose to connect to pump and intercooler. Then I notice the 11" fan it comes with they supply you those stupid zip ties to shove through core to hold on the fan. I never use those things so I whipped up a fan shroud for that and got fan mounted onto it. I didn't install on truck since I need to finish painting the tubes the grill and fenders mount onto. Also got some plans to make some hood hinges since the ones I made were not so nice and allowed the hood to touch edge of firewall when it opened.

Plumbed in more vacuum lines to the Mac valve boost controller solenoid as well as MAP sensor. Installed cold side intake tube with BOV valve. Upper radiator hose as well as rad hold downs and ac condenser.
