What's new

1500 dollar CJ7 “Uncle Joe”

For got to mention I cut a hole in the floor… probably to big but I wanted to be sure I could reach everything without to much work I’ve been kinda spoiled with the race cars.so far this weekend I’ve put in some much needed rear tubing structure and started work on the cage hoping to have the bed rail tubes done tomorrow which will really tighten up the body and give me a solid point to start the top half. I’ll trim them down once it gets close to that time.

Lots of figuring today I knew I wanted to land the waist band tubes on a tab at the back of the tub that would allow me to add a spare tire carrier down the road so I started with that. Ended up dove tailing the rear tube work in a little to get what I wanted.

From there I had to figure out exactly where I’m going to land my C pillar tube decided as far back as possible would look the best. Also did some finish work on the body but for the first time in along time the body no longer moves! Starting to see the final shape hope to get the main hoop done next weekend instead of going to NorCal Round 3.

It’s been an a wild 4 months. I mentioned earlier In this thread I was looking for a change in pace and was interested in going back to industrial construction at the end of June I finally got the call I was waiting for. I learned a lot from Derek and Dave at Trent fab but I felt as though I had learned all I could under their supervision that being said my jeep project was becoming a strain on the working relationship and it was clearly time for me to move on. I had contemplated selling the project all together many times but dave was gracious enough to let me store it at his house until I got settled in at my new job.

Now 4 months late I have returned to reno to retrieve my jeep and my other belongings. Hopefully soon work can continue on the jeep and as a bonus building my own creative space inside a two car garage.

Hope everyone is having a great thanksgiving! Work let us of Tuesday-Monday and since my parents are in havasu for the winter I’ve been putting my free time to use in the shop! Picked up some tubing yesterday and broke out the tube bender I am borrowing from a friend.

After a lot of figuring it looks like I made the B piller tubes to short and not angled in far enough so I’ll be making some tubes to hold all this in place so I can cut the B-pullers out and make new ones. One step forward two steps back seems to be how this is going

Last week I called it quits about the time I realized I notched the passenger side B-Piller a quarter inch to low so that's where I started this weekend. This driver-side euro bar has been the tube from hell. Every time I think I have it right it was over bent or the B puller was short then I over bent the next part of it. It's not perfect but everything else matches up besides the one thing that's going to bug me for the rest of my life😂

No big updates for the past few weeks. Getting to this point was a big push for me but I didn’t really start planning the next phase of the build until it was finished so now I’m ordering parts and stuff for the next phase. I haven’t ordered seats yet but I did build out a set online just to get an idea of what I want.

Fun fact my second job was working for Aaron at PRP seats after school my senior year of Highschool I had bought a 1996 TJ and the seats in it where absolutely destroyed so I asked Aaron if I could come help out in exchange for seats after about two months right before graduation he told me to grab whatever set of seats I want from the top shelf of the reject pallet rack. If you ever wondered what happened to the custom seats that were never paid for that’s where they ended up.
