There is ALOT more to it than that. City council decided one day that his pre-existing septic system was no longer legal, and was then making it nearly impossible to connect to the city sewer. Then they wanted an easement across his property for a road to the concrete plant, but weren't willing to pay his price. Everytime they tried screwing him, he raised the price. Marv was on the wrong side of the good ole boys club, and whether you think he was right or wrong, at least he got off the porch.

According to the other thread he found out about the septic thing after he bought land for 'a smoking deal' and killing yourself because you won't pay $10k to connect to septic seems like a dumbass reason to kill yourself. Residents paid for the damages of him getting off the porch, and just like OKC he didn't stop anything.

You can street view the road where his shop was. The road existed in 1999. Nothing about it has changed since 1999. What the **** would there be an easement for?

I'm not half the man that Marvin Heemeyer was. I also haven't been pushed as far as he was, so I doubt I'll be doing anything newsworthy.
I would have just burned them all alive inside the next county meeting. Maybe slowly take them out individually after learning their routines. mostly because I can't weld as good as him.

Quick research says he didn't want the concrete plant, he kept raising the price to sell the land, and 22 years later the dirt road to his shop still isn't blocked. I forget why this was important enough to watch the video. Some guy killed himself because he could t get a building, or block construction?
An often overlooked point is he did raise the price, but the two offers and prices were several years apart. It's completely reasonable to raise your price as time goes on and the land gets more valuable

Having experienced small town politics and games there is very little of the story I don't believe has some decent basis in reality.

I could see the septic probably could have been fixed with a check to the right contractor. But I also hate the whole idea that a landowner cannot do any work they can safely and properly do on their own property without hiring someone the crown approves of.

The video I linked says 80K to tap into the sewer. Which never would have been required if they had not tricked him to sign on to their authority in the first place.
They also didn't tell him that he could ask the neighbor for an easement; they just said that they couldn't get it (for him?). It definitely does a good job at debunking things as they were presented in Tread.

ETA: he did raise the price twice. Once after 4 years, and again after a zoning change altered the value.

Three checks. The first two wouldn't have been good enough. That's how the club operates.

I get to see people living on land where they say they have a septic often enough to see both sides of 'prove you're right.'

You could prove you have a septic hiring someone to drop a radar in it. This guy's life choice doesn't impact anything in my day and he didn't stop anything unfortunately. All I see is 'you can't fight city hall.' No hoping he has a better day anymore.

Dude, it's Marvin Heemeyer Day. Let those of us that care celebrate the man and you can go **** in some other thread. Just for today, ok?

but that is the passive agressive approach
he did it head on, and they had to sit there knowing it was coming across town for them
they even knew it, because the poor so called victims somehow knew what place he was coming for next

that would suck knowing there was a Komatsu click clacking across town with a target on your ****

I knew I was wasting my time responding to you this morning. You would never understand. After all, you are one of them.

just go watch the documentary

they had it coming

What is there to celebrate? Why is he worth celebrating?
A decent man got pushed. He had enough.
Give him that much.

None of us know how we would have handled the very same situation, because none of us were put in his shoes.

Fact of life is that people get screwed by the connections/greed/abuse of power. They pushed this man through antagonizing, and he did not see other way to address it.

I worked with his brother. Wish he would publish the entire journals he ended up with.

Marv wasn't from there, so being successful was a crime. The more successful his business was, the harder they tried to drive him out of town.

He didn't build the dozer until they ruined his business and his sanity. They flat out broke him and they mistook him for a man that would tuck tail and run.

There's a reason behind every single building he hit, and the list was a longer than he accomplished.

"You can't fight city hall" and "roll over and take it like a bitch"

-brought to you by the man from city hall

Thats what he does. He becomes an unbearable whiny ****, then fixes it for awhile every year or so, then returns to it.

Does anyone go there?
What is the vibe in town?
Any dont tread on my flags? Or is this a town that is afraid of the little town .gov and we have to advert your eyes
Is Marv the hero? The Devil?

According to that whistling whatetever guy, when he trucked the dozer through town, the cops seemed like they didn't like it

You can't fight city hall but the people in city hall have homes and families and if you're ok with dying or going to prison you can do things to those homes and families that make the other people in city hall think twice about their actions.

No idea what that town is currently like but since its Colorado its probably full of Californians now. That said i do know they were so scared of a repeat or admirers making pilgrimage there they made sure the original was cut up and not kept track of.

I imagine they didn't since he has been harassed by the law pretty regularly iirc, and everyone got to see news clips back in the day of law enforcement standing around thumbs in ass unable to stop the original. They even tried ramming it with another piece of equipment to **** all effect and it took a literal building and operator error to kill it. Plus its also just a big load to haul through town :flipoff2:.

Driven through several times. Can't recall seeing much of anything about it, but it was 10-15 years ago now the last time I was there.
