What were you relieved to get rid of the most?

For me, this 1993 Toyota pickup. Most disappointing drink of kool-aid ever. That legendary reliable 22re spit a head gasket, replaced it, and was rewarded with the most underpowered underwhelming truck I’ve ever owned

I can't say I've had a car that made me doubt life choices.

I was "happy" to get rid of the under powered 305 Grand Prix because it was my first car and I had zero choice in it.

I was "happy" to get rid of an e46 BMW and Saab 901 because they were long in the tooth. But no real issues with them.

Sticking to my theme from the last thread:

1983 ATC 200X. My son and I spent a few months "restoring" this thing. Took it down to the bare frame and started over to make it look like the "R"s from that vintage. All new plastics, seat cover, bearings all around, brakes, etc. We tore the engine down and put a 10.25 Wiseco piston, aftermarket cam/valve springs, a new Barnett clutch and a bunch of other fun goodies.

We went to start it for the 1st time and the kicker gears inside the case stripped out. I was so pissed, I threw the thing in the corner of the barn and forgot I owned it for about 4 years.

Fast forward to the beginning of this year, and a kid on Marketplace was looking to trade his freshly rebuilt 89' KDX 200 for a 3 wheeler. My son reached out to him, told him the whole story, and the kid couldn't wait to trade us.

Good riddance!

My brother had a V-6 Mercury Bobcat that I drove for several months. I couldn't wait to give that car back to him.

It had lots of power but clattered like a diesel.

My wife complained that I was too opinionated on vehicles, so I said whatever, go pick what you want.

She brought home a ~2010 Jeep liberty, complete with a misfire and a torque converter shudder.

I fixed the misfire, but never ****ed with the shudder.

Also this LX470 she's got now (that I picked) is easily the least reliable vehicle I have ever owned. And I have owned a 6.0 ford, and many BMWs.

It's come home on a wrecker no less than 3 times. And it will be getting replaced with something to be determined once we are through this house purchase.

2005 Cat Eye Chevy Silverado. I’ve never hated a vehicle more.

That thing had to get towed more times all by itself than the next 12 trucks combined that I’ve had since then.
Interesting, what were the issues? My dad is still driving his ‘05 around to this day and his idea of maintenance is just filling it with diesel and driving it. I had do a trans fluid change, serp belt, filters etc at just over a 100k because he refused to.

2005 F250 with a 6.blow, bought in 2009 with 98k miles and the first time I towed it started blowing coolant out of the overflow. Deleted the EGR cooler and it was still doing it. Didnt know the engine might have still been covered under a 5 year 100k mile warranty. Traded it in 2011 on a F150.

Evap and electrical. It was a 1500 with a 5.3 and 4L60 3.73 gears. The check engine light was on permanently from 11,000 up. ECM bricked once. Guage pod bricked once. 5 or 6 fuel pumps. Front diff self destructed.

At the same time I had it. I had a Ford 150 with a 351/E4OD and 3.55 gears. And a Ram with a 360 and 4.10 gears. Both of these could tow a 7# trailer at 80 mph better than the Chevy and got better fuel mileage doing it. Whenever I hear people brag on an LS I couldn’t be more confused or perplexed. That thing was a let down in every way a vehicle can be a let down. Then the cherry on top was General Motors Corp couldn’t care less. They voided the factory warranty because I had put tire chains on it.

Oh there are so, so many. . . here are the top 3.
'85 Cherokee (XJ). Memorable event was the rear end locking up on a freeway off-ramp at speed and that cracked the iron duke's block between cylinders 2 and 3. The twilight AMC days was the definitive low point of '80s American car technology and manufacturing.
'77 LTD 4-door. Just absolutely hated everything about that car.
'09 Jetta TDI. Great car after getting deleted and tuned.. . when it behaved. Keeping the CEL at bay was a full-time job. Never thought I'd long for the days of maintaining a gen 1 MINI Cooper S. . .

I had a similar experience with an 06. Got its ass kicked towing a trailer across country. Hooked the trailer to our 96 with a 350 and it did way better

That 06 ate a cam, I replaced it and the lifters, sold it and am done with LS engines. That’s the 3rd and final one that killed itself on my watch with valve train issues. All were the supposedly reliable gen 3motors

I guess it was alright for what it was?

Gutless. Rotted. The AWD setup kept failing. Fuel surge at anything above 55. Parasitic draw I couldn't nail down. Constant evap leak. Most of all, just look at it.

First time I had ever done it, but traded it in and got the wife in an Impreza.

This darn thing! There was nothing wrong with it but it found its way over 100 MPH every time I rode it. I'm getting too old for that stuff and sold it a couple of years ago.
Oh, if we're going there....

jjjjjjjjgjf.jpg

Wiiiiiiiild ride. That front end did NOT want to stay on the ground. That thing was a raped ape.

The only vehicle I truly hated was my 2011 fusion 4 cylinder.

Nothing wrong with it, other than being too reliable to get rid of. I suffered with that thing for a couple years, constantly wondering if I should just try to graze the bridge abutment at 80.

Didn't go, didn't stop, couldn't turn, but just kept on being completely mind numbing to drive day in and day out.

My brothers 69 Camaro is one. It should have been sentimental and what not and a cool car but I hated it with a burning passion by the end. I inherited it after he wrecked it and it was put back together poorly which was finished shortly after he died. Engine on its last legs. Spent a ton of time and money putting a fuel injected 505 BBC and a new tremec in it. It would never run right half the time and when it would start and run something always broke.

The last time it was driven it ate basically the entire front suspension and almost put itself in a bridge barrier (again). While they were fixing that some classic car flipper came by and saw it and had to have it. When I got mom to agree she wouldn't disown me for selling it i couldn't take the guys money fast enough. Good ****ing riddance pretty much every memory i have of it is a bad one.

The only other one was my dodge with the cummins. It was on 07 with the 6 speed. Ran fine most of the time and was ok to drive but was riddled with electrical problems and hidden rust. I knew it had been in an accident. I didnt know that involved it spending time as a submarine. I sold it when i moved back to Va. I did see it one time after i sold it. It showed up broken down near the international dealer i worked at. When i saw it on the roadside with the hood up i sped up and took the next left :flipoff2:

Not a vehicle I owned, but one my dad owned while I was younger.

198(4?) Dodge Aries wagon (K Car)

Was my mom's when it was nicer, then she got a newer vehicle and my dad replaced the rotted out 70s 2wd squarebody Chevy truck he was driving with the Aries.

I was too young to know what the **** was wrong with it, but it dieseled so ****ing bad every time he shut it off. More often than not he'd have to turn the key back on and then off again. He'd drop me off for baseball and there we'd be with that piece of ****ing junk coughing and blowing black smoke everywhere, with dad usually swearing at it.

I remember in the winter he'd go out to fire it up and he'd be out there revving the piss out of it to get it to stay running.

It never really had exhaust on it, just a muffler somewhere in the middle of the car with a turn down. The **** always fell off over rough bumps. He had it rigged together and would always get so pissed when it fell apart. All you'd hear is the ****ty little 4 cylinder with no muffler.

One night on the way home from boy scouts we smoked a deer. I thought for sure that was the end of it....nope, he ****ing paid a body shop to hang new/used sheetmetal on it. WTF?

My mom got another new van, and her old van which was perfectly fine sat there along the shed while he continued to drive that stupid ****ing Aries. Im not sure what the nail in the coffin was, but he eventually parked it alongside the shed and drove the van....all the while still refusing to get rid of the Aries.

I ****ing hated that car.

VW buig

Back in the 90's as a teenager my dad decided a good first car for me was a 70 bug, so he proceeded to take $500 from my saving to buy this bug from a coworker. His thought was that we should get something easy to work on. It was I'll admit fairly easy to work on, but the part he missed is it would need repair about every 3 days. Forget what all went wrong, but there was always some new issue with it. On the good side it was at least transportation, but but man that thing was a pain in my ass. Pisser in the guy I worked for had a mid 60's ford pickup that would have been just as easy to fix, would have been much less of a POS would actually be useful and offered it for the same money but my dad said no. Got rid of that thing as soon as I could - IIRC traded it straight across for a early 60's Ford Falcon. Also sort of a clunky car, but at least reliable and had a fricking heater that worked.
