Issues with Verizon, I called them yesterday about very poor service. Barely get a bar at my house. Missing calls, and voicemails showing up a day later.

Call them up, press 1 to speak to live person, and boom connected. Not even a 1m wait.

For the first ~10m, I swear it was an AI robot. Then, they start clearing their throat, little laugh or acknowledgements here and there. Lots of mmhmms, and ums.

They have me resetting my network connection, they tell me to hang up, they call back, leave a voicemail to see if it works, that sort of thing. Still lots of ums.

Then they have me move to my wife's phone. So, I have them on speaker with my phone, but resetting stuff on my wife's. We're in the kitchen and my wife keeps shaking my head. They do the hang up and call back thing, and my wife is 100% on them being a robot. I'm at the point I can't tell. Its been 45m of us working on this. Wife did mention every time they said my name, there was an "um" before it. Which, looking back seems accurate.

I was told they were given some changes, still only one bar of service, and there's network instability in your area currently and will call be in a couple days.

If they even do call back, I want to come up with some form of Turing test. There a question, repeat of phrase, or something I could run by this thing to confirm its not a robot?

I had the exact same experience last week with another call into a big company. They even gave her a slightly indian but not too indian accent. I thought I was crazy thinking it was a computer but you just convinced me.

Yep! Started with a K. Keterdan or something.

First 10m I was positive it was a computer. But, as time progressed I was questioning myself.

edit:

Then there's this, which would also make sense?

I usually dance across the keyboard till the ai gets overloaded and transfers the call, if you just keep hitting random strings of keys either they hang you up or transfer ya...

Alternative, compliment them on their robot voice doing a very good human impression, how it makes the transaction easy and clear.

Everybody loves compliments and it will respond

yea the chatbot is worthless if you need help.

BUT if you call 611, when the bot answers the call and starts asking what you need, start hitting keys ....
