New Kawi 2 smoke

I recall a video of a guy running a race on a Ninja 250 with a top case just absolutely spanking everyone.

Edit:
Found it!

I had a ninja 250, that thing cornered like it was on rails. Going up Palomar Mt. wasn't that much fun. Coming back down it was just about untouchable. You'd just go sailing past the bigger bikes when they hit the brakes for the corners.

Ya, I've looked into it quite a bit.

Currently they both ride the Crf150f, it's about the same wieght and just a bit smaller than a full size. So the beta should be better than the crf and not any heavier?

The X Trainer will be about 10lb heavier than a CRF150F (Beta gives full "dry" weight in their specs, meaning no coolant or oil or brake/clutch fluid). X Trainers are around 233lb minus fuel.

X Trainers have almost the same wheelbase as most other full-size 300s, within about 0.5" (same as a 125/150). They have a slightly lower seat height by 1.5-2" - that's the only thing smaller, and it's only because the suspension is shorter travel. It would be the same as a lowered full-size bike.

They are still a full-size dirt bike and will be a noticable jump from a CRF150F, especially with 2x the power. The jump from 19/16 to 21/18 wheels is also noticable. If a rider has outgrown a CRF150F in size, yeah, an X Trainer would be a good next step. If a rider has become faster or more skilled than a CRF150F can handle, they should probably move on to a bike that can offer more speed and performance (like a Beta 200rr/rr race, or KTM 150 XCW/Husky TE 150 - both of which can be lowered to the same height as an X Trainer).

I haven't bought him a head insert yet. But we swapped the stock piston at 100 hours, needed to go to a "C" Wossner. It'll need a re-plate as 100 hours was far too long. We'll see what it measures at 150 hours, and likely I'll buy an insert then.

Turns out the damn thing is even more fun with compression!

I did mine at 30hrs, as I didnt know what to expect. It looked good, but thats still a itty bitty piston going a billion rpm  I'd not want to go more than about 50 hours, just for peace of mind. Top ends are cheap enough, theres no reason not to IMO

For a **** off bike, or just a trainer they are just a ball. Had to be careful diving off into canyons seeing where that goes. Got into a few situations that wouldnt have been a situation on a 250/300:homer:

I did the RK tek insert with the cut for hi rev. It was awesome, but very pipey. That happy spot where its coming on the power but not spazzing out, was very small and hard to keep in it. TPS insert was a lot more useable and better, though nowhere near as fun.

X trainer is way down on power compared to the RR/RX.

Change the pipe and head, and they're the same monster as their other 300s. Think just the pipe was responsible for a 15hp drop :barf:

Bought it with 78 hours in June, said screw it and waited until winter.

I was going to do the RKtek torque insert. He rides it on the bottom quite a bit and hasn't gotten used to letting it scream and abusing the clutch yet.

Thats what I shoulda got to start with. But I clicked the mid-top end choice. Get a real flowy trail and it was a ball. PITA in anything technical though

Watching him hustle some of the older bikes around is hilarious. The TW one was great.
I miss my TW. The Hog was awesome. Best city bike ever, curbs, stairs, medians, shoulders, sidewalks, park it behind the bushes, etc. Trails though, holy crap it was bad. I can still feel the forks bottoming out and I cracked a chin guard on a helmet on the handlebars in a G out once. Was super fun on the beach at low pressure. Soft sand was no issue floating the valves in second gear. Smiling thinking about it

The X Trainer has a different exhaust, cylinder head, CDI box, and carb jetting. Swap all of those ($1k or so) and yeah, it's a 300 rr engine.

Had a RM 500. Raced Open class with it. Rode CR 500s and kept the 2004 KX500. My friends on the CR 500s couldn't keep up on to my KX500. Then again, my KX isn't stock HP either. It's down right scary fast. The main thing is I did NOT like about the CRs was the head shake. My other bike is a slow slow ass 2004 KTM XC-W. I'm spoiled to the electric start now.

Guy from my 4wd club just about died when his CR500 gave him a tank slapper at Dumont and one of the bars smashed into the inside of his leg and burst the femoral artery, got a helo ride and a black and blue leg that lasted a couple months.

No displacement rules in vet classes, no real good reason to market it to supercross.

Beta 350 2t are showing up more and more in the vet classes and giving the 450s less reason to exit outside the very top of the sport.

In 2013 I pitted for the team that won V2R, and our riders were on Betas. After 543 miles the difference between first and second was less than 6 seconds, and the top three MC's were faster than all the Trick Trucks. When Pearson crossed into 2nd place he asked our rider Nick Burson if he had any more speed in him, and they both agreed they were both riding over their heads. It really came down to pit strategy, we changed one rear tire and the THR Kawi changed two.

and I got a TTR125 that is on its origional piston

I got it in 2000

ttr's are like XR 80s & 100s, those ****ers will run forever without any maintenance whatsoever besides keeping the tank full and the oil topped off.
oil?

12 y/o me just dumped old lawnmower gas in it once a month
that was maintenance when I had my XR80, I didn't know any better

I hear 4 strokes are cool too...
Yah I’m a die hard 2 stroke guy too but if you’re racing and want to compete you’ve gotta go to the dark side. But yep auto clutches are as gay as you can get and this bike looks sweet. Beta has a 350 that I might like a little more cause it has a carb. My little mc125 is a sweet ride with a button and fuel injection though

I never hear anyone complaining about problems with modern efi dirt bikes breaking down.
