What laser do you have? I will have a need to engrave some cylindrical metal parts with text at least 0.003" deep sometime in the not too distant future and am considering buying some kind of laser that can handle round parts.I'm making some crap for a craft fair.

Chinese fiber lasers are crazy cheap now. I've been looking at them on eBay under $1500. Probably not something to base a business on, but it'd be nice to have. What laser do you have? What!? Come on now every one knows that you cant be a cool chick without at least 2 vehicle decals, 4 articles of clothing, and 6 accessories that have the word bitch or bitches on them in the form of bad bitch, boss bitch, drunk bitch, and so on. I mean what else screams I have class like having bitch on everything? By the way if you really want to see the inner bitch come out, point that out to them while they're complaining about men. ****ing hilarious!deadmeat do you think there is or have you seen oversaturation with the Pinterest esque mugs, says, phrasing and **** like that on everything? Doesnt seem like a profitable thing to get into coming from someone (me) that doesnt have the equipment nor inventory. hh

Because the platform pivots and I wanted to leave a little flex in it for uneven surfaces. Definitely went with thinner tubing for weight savings and then used multiple layers to laminate for added strength.if the deck doesn't tilt, why not brace it back to the axle at the ends?
looks kinda wasp-waisted
As an aside, I like that you're using thinner square tube and not the ******ed excess 1/4 wall that everyone defaults to. Or at least the corner radius makes it seem that way.
I'd love to know how to do that kind of thing. Pretty amazing that you turned that out on day 1. Good work!I’m taking a week long intro to sheet metal shaping class. Yesterday was day one.
We started with a flat sheet of 20ga and made this over a stump.

Then we shrunk the folds, more hammer work over a stump, planished on a planishing hammer, and some English wheel work we came up with this.

How'd you un-**** the folds?

You close the open end of the tuck to capture it / lock it in, then hammer down the tuck & it compresses the metal into its shrunk position. How'd you un-**** the folds?
The class is at McPherson College in McPherson KS. They have an auto restoration degree. Every summer they do 3 weeks of summer classes. They have a bunch of auto related classes.I'd love to know how to do that kind of thing. Pretty amazing that you turned that out on day 1. Good work!

"close the open end of the tuck"You close the open end of the tuck to capture it / lock it in, then hammer down the tuck & it compresses the metal into its shrunk position.
Yeah, basically. The tuck is like a "V" - smack the fat end of the V down first to close the tuck, then smack the rest of the tuck down back toward the narrow end."close the open end of the tuck"
uhhh
so you hammer the folds down from the edge inward?
We did it the other direction to get rid of the fold. First smack the fat end to lock the fold, then we started at the narrow tip of the V and worked out towards the fat end. All of this while the fold was supported in the dish of the stump. It might not matter which way you work the fold, I don’t know.Yeah, basically. The tuck is like a "V" - smack the fat end of the V down first to close the tuck, then smack the rest of the tuck down back toward the narrow end.

Our local community college is eliminating programs and looking at leasing/selling off property to make ends meet. I think they need to look at something like your college is doing. The class is at McPherson College in McPherson KS. They have an auto restoration degree. JFCThat's legit.

McPherson College has had the auto restoration program for probably 40+ years. It has been well known for a long time. Jay Leno has been involved with them for a long time. I think he was on their board for a while. A few years ago they won second place at Pebble Beach with a student-restored 1953 Mercedes. That has really boosted the program. This fall they are starting a 19 million dollar renovation program that is focused on the restoration program. Our local community college is eliminating programs and looking at leasing/selling off property to make ends meet. Mike Wagner of Cornfield Customs is out near my aunt in Ohio. I have to try to line things up to visit her and take one of his classes.

I've heard of him, and I've watched a few of his videos on youtube. I knew he did classes and I've heard good things about them.
