Nice

I called Starrett today to get some information on it. Mainly how much it weighs. She said it weighs 550lbs.

New comparable one close to it, sells for around $2,200-$2,300 less the stand

I have room for the one I bought and I didn’t think I did bad on it for that price, even after you tryin to steal my thunder.
uhhhhh
"you got a good deal on a reasonably sized one that usually goes for ******ed money and the big ones I stupidly got cheap aren't exactly useful since it takes up too much space to be put in a conditioned area away from thermal gradients caused by sunlight and is terrible to move around, and tremendously expensive to get recertified for flatness"

but you choose to read it as me rubbing my big huge penis all over your face when it was nothing of the sort since it doesn't even get hard and is functionally useless

I got a Howe scale at an auction years and years ago... Don't remember what I paid for it but it was dirt cheap. I restored it to good condition and it works great. Main reason I got it is my wife's maiden name was Howe.

middle aged lady I got it from said her dad had it because he worked at the factory it was built in
kinda neat it does still sorta halfway have the silkscreened decal on the wooden upright
I keep it outta the rain, but it wouldn't be worthwhile to do so, other than the upright being all wood and therefore rottable

First of all… eeew. And talk to your doctor about a penis pump. My old boss back in the 80’s was wanting one really bad before he got lung cancer and passed away.

Second, nice scale. I bought one at auction similar ten years ago, a floor unit, but you can pick it up fairly easily. Oddly enough, I’ve never used it for who knows. Taking up space in my shop too.

I want an anvil like that or bigger, but I’m not paying crazy money for one (thanks forged in fire)

what
metaphor, dude

you could pick this one up but it'd be a hernia
the handle on the back of the base is real nice for wheeling it around on two wheels though

As evidenced by the price marking, I gave $150 for that 146# peter wright before prices got ******ed. Got another about the same size for free, and have one my old man bought that is an arm and hammer that was broken and re-welded and welded to a pair of truck rims for a base that I use all the time for straightening **** out at the shop.

What's the weight capacity on those fairbanks scales? I have never used one, but I feel like they'd be useless for more than human weight ****.

they're usually seen advertised as feed scales for weighing out daily animal feed rations

the weights on the right side of the beam are 1lb per 100lb of additional weight
I've got a 1/2lb weight, a couple 1lb ones and a 2lb one
the beam itself goes 0-50lbs
so with all the weights I've got to stack on mine it'll weigh anything up to 500lbs
I imagine it'd start getting awfully testy if you piled a thousand pounds on it, but it'd only take hanging 10lbs of weight off the right side of the scale to get it to measure there

I have a "Harvard" in my living room. It seems to work, but it's missing most of the weights. I need to figure out what weights it should have so I can look for replacements some day.

The nameplate on the upright is pretty sweet.

from what I've seen they're pretty standard at the 1lb/100lb ratio

snake a pound of big washers on over the hook and see if it is still accurate weighing things from 100-150lbs (assuming yours has a scale 1-50lb)
then you can look for a set like this guy:
it's just the first one I saw that included the mucho important 1/2lb "50" don't go buying it outta hand, it might be way overpriced

purchased a while ago, but finally used the other day:

bought the Ryobi die grinder with a bunch of flap wheels/sanding discs etc. It's nice for small stuff.

what I hadn't used was the carbide bits. holy hell how have I been fabbing for 20 years without those? Needed to oblong a hole in my frame for crossmember bolts that weren't quite lined up right. 30 seconds later and DONE vs screwing with drill bits for half an hour. IF you don't have a set, you need it

I bought my first pneumatic air die grinder in the 80’s. Still have and it works great. I own a bunch of them mostly 90*.

I have a cordless Milwaukee at work.

I use wire wheels in them and small cut off wheels besides things you listed

carbide, scotchbrite and sanding discs get a lotta work done in a hurry:smokin:

And now you have millions of little needles laying all around you. Welcome to the club, buy a magnet sweeper before you track that **** in the house or god forbid get it in the laundry

Over 1k lbs of plate stuck to it. Not hoisting it for anything other than to see where the limit is, and from the 25.6" on the guage and look of the cups its close by lol. Vac generator is full stroke.

I like the max load 550 sticker LOL...

I didn't realize that was all mechanical. 25.6 is probably better than our electric one pulls.

Can you spoon feed me some options, whenever I look up bits I’m not sure which ones to get.

You can buy a kit of different types of bits and more than likely, you’ll find a couple that you’ll gravitate to the most.

Steel bits have a lot of cutter teeth whereas aluminum cutters have teeth spaced out a lot.
