Nascar and cletus

Up to that point personal in car cameras were never legal because you could use them to record live data. Nascar doesn't allow any form of on board data collection in any class.
Key Data Collection Components:
  • McLaren ECU: The central hub recording over 200 channels of data, with 60+ mandated by NASCAR and the remainder available for team-specific analysis.
  • GPS and Sensors: Tracks car position, velocity, brake pressure, throttle, and steering inputs.
  • Telemetry Transmission: Data is sent via UHF radio to on-site servers, and subsequently to the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud for analysis.
  • Live Broadcasting/Analysis: Companies like SMT use this telemetry to create virtual dashboards, "GhostCar" graphics, and real-time performance analytics (e.g., passing and defense ratings) for viewers.
  • In-Car Cameras: The full Cup Series field is equipped with live-streaming cameras, allowing fans to access feeds through platforms like NASCAR Drive.

Thats Cup, not ARCA or the Busch series.

That all came with EFI and the gay cars they run now. In the carburetor days none of that stuff was in any of these cars and it was highly illigal to have.

Yeah but...

I haven't watched or cared about Nascar since the carbed cup car went away. Nobody could have on board data collection devices back then. And now I guess Nascar puts their own data collection devices in the cup cars and shares some of that information with teams. CUP TEAMS STILL CAN'T COLLECT THEIR OWN DATA. Cleetus drives ARCA and Bush cars where no data collection is allowed in any form. Seems pretty simple to me. 🤷‍♂️

They can collect data, just during testing. They have an impressive telemetry setup.

It's just not allowed during the races. Which is why the camera can't be pointed at the dash.

It wasn't data collection for our guys, it was just the ability to show sponsors the in car video, they own the broadcasting rights and anything in their on track "cloud" is their product and can't be sent out. We have the setup for the endurance car and it's pretty cool just to tell your family and friends that you and your idiot buddies are going to be racing at Daytona or VIR with 120 other cars and it's going to be pretty nuts because we have no business going 150MPH at Daytona. Not sending any proprietary data. Just 4 Hacks at a racetrack taking out our everyday traffic aggressions

8 Hr

2 hours of dead air at the beginnning of this one
"ice fog" on the track

Daytona

KSR has continual problems with NASCAR copyright striking all the content of racing GT cars.

NASCAR is full ****** on "we own everything and everyone".

Heading to Watkins Glen this weekend if anyone's going.

They moved it up in the schedule from August and the weather is certainly going to be different. No bikini tops to come off this year.

speedway events got caonceled last weekend.
gave track conditions as a result of the rain as the reason.
but also didn't send out an email until saturday night @ 8pm.
so that was kind of annoying.

I swear he is treating the throttle as an on off switch and not modulating it thru the turns. You can watch other drivers pull away from him thru the turns in front of him. He also needs to work on his pit road manners.

I don't think he's treating the throttle as a switch per-say, he just hasn't learned how to modulate (feather) the throttle yet while carrying speed through the corners. IOW I agree.
His lines. I understood them, but seemed a bit wild, which is understood for a noob, and I'm sure he'll get cleaner in time/practice.

All and all I like this kid, and will definitely keep an out.

1st section was interesting seeing him work. Bummer he spun at the end of it and lost what he worked for and f’d up the car.
