Basically what it says. Gas in the retirement home mobile is killing me and i dont like wearing it out anyway. Found an ok deal on a 2015 mazda 6 with a 6 speed manual and the 2.0. 37mpg would cut my fuel cost in half. Anybody own one? Like it? Hate it? Decent car or a nightmare? Mom has a 2013 or so mazda 3 that has 250k and has survived chucking its oil filter at highway speed and being driven 10 miles after so seems like they built ok stuff? Anyway nickel for your thoughts due to inflation....

I remember some of those having really bad oil consumption issues which usually lead to engine failure from low oil. May have been just the first gen though.

In general I like Mazda. Have had a couple with good luck.

I wouldnt pass on Mazda for DD status.

Used to have a theory about Mazda 3's. No matter what a hot ass chick was driving it. Proved to be like 80% accurate.
Has been my experience with the other 20 percent fat bearded dudes, which i am:homer:
Need pics of your mom for science. :homer:
Shes 76 so probably not what your looking for.... Although she is looking for a man.... Is that you step dad?!:flipoff2:

I’ve had good luck with Mazdas as well. If you can find a speed6, buy it. Lots of smiles per gallon.
I was looking at various commuter rigs in general, but mostly popped this thread because i found a particular one. Not a speed 6 but is a manual, which i prefer. Slow car fast as opposed to fast car slow or whatever...

The engines have proven to be fairly reliable...the rust has proven to be also quite reliable lol

I owned a couple Mazda 3's (a 2006 and a 2010 speed) and they were fine vehicles, but they are still econo **** boxes and are built as such. You won't get 37mpg though lol maybe 30ish at the best of times.

The 2015s supposedly get far better mileage than thier predecessor generation you have listed, but even if its only low 30s that beats low 20s to mid teens. Not worried about rust too bad because i live in the south, but it will be going to my mechanic a few doors over for a check over regardless first.

Wasnt a lack of desire to listen either, just nothing decent for sale right now stuff is being held onto with all this 4d chess
gawd dam TDS.
The 2014-17 prius isn't bad either. Buddy has 450k on his.

I think you have the only semi running metro in a 4 state area bud, believe it or not i looked
And the only Running 81 toyota too. I keep trying to find parts and it's just not happening.

I also looked for a prius, because 90 miles of commute, but they were all at the age or mileage to potentially need a new hybrid battery. The ones that weren't had sketchy pasts and were being sold by sketchy back page dealers with arabic accents and 2 star facebook reviews.... And several looked like biohazards inside for some reason:barf:

Time for a small block ford swap... Or an LS if your feeling boring:flipoff2:

Think of all the sketchy things you could haul. Or body swap it onto the dodge. Ultimate Arse from the dark side frankenmobile
You realize that its $1300 and they give them away if they need a battery. Rip the seats out and do it in a day.
Problem was most of the ones i found weren't being given away, and batteries were sort of vague unknown. Also hybrids are still witchcraft to me. If this car turns out to be a turd may look again.

The skyactive 2.0 gets quite a bit better mileage. My 08 2.3 gets 30 no matter what so I’d bet that 37 claim isn’t too far off

I suppose it's possible with a lot of highway miles and reasonable speeds...My 06 which was the older 2.0 (MZR?) engine was ok on gas, but I don't remember consistently getting 30's except highway. The speed 3 was a pig, I averaged something like 18mpg in that one.

The skyactive's were supposed to be like 20% better or something right? So I guess maybe 37 is doable? Isn't the US MPG different than ours up here too?

Its not witchcraft. The Toyota versions are simply electric vehicles with an onboard gas generator. X amps can be drawn from the battery before the engine kicks on to provide additional amps for acceleration. The engine also runs a bit afterward to charge the battery, and any time over 42 mph (motor 1 spins counter motor 2 and is a larger diameter. The engine reduces the spin by its RPM to prevent overspeed).

My commute is 30% 45 mph backroads and 70% cruise set at 80 interstate. So fairly ideal for mpg

The thing that hurts the older 5 speed ones is they are singing at 80, mine is at like 3600rpm

Thats the issue with moms 5 speed 3. It has to run pretty hard to do 70 or 75 on the interstate stretch especially since with 250k it is probably slightly tired to boot.

I own a 2015 Mazda 6 with the 6 sp manual. It's my grind out the miles car. As of now, it's at 282,xxx miles. Car has been great. Averages 32 MPG. Parking brake lever on the rear calipers corrode and stick about every 3 yrs, but I'm located in WI, and we love our salted roads, so that is usually what does them in. In the 11 yrs I've owned it, basic maintaince, rear calipers, one alternator, and a leaky fuel pump gasket have been the only issues. I am seriously considering getting an '18 model to replace this one due to that being the last yr they came with a manual.

I actually have been thinking about one of those. Might get into hypermiling :emb:

I test drove one of those before I bought an accord hybrid. The insight was gutless.
The zuki is all about the hypermiling. Yall missed an off screen text conversation where he has attempted to get me to buy a 4k dollar high mileage insight instead . Honestly, im not totally against it but it would be not a comfortable ride for me.
