plumbing folks, what sort of pipe connection is this?

What kinda goofy calipers is that? It's like the tape measure I grabbed yesterday with all the measurements written out.. WTF?
I don't know, just calipers I've had for a while, I use them for stuff that doesn't need to be super accurate, or somewhere I can't use a tape measure or steel rule very well. makes it quick and easy to see how close something is to fractional drill bit sizes. Like for example, 3 sizes larger than 3/4", or whatever.

Inner scale is fractional 1/64", outer is normal decimal .01" I'm not a machinist, so I don't really think in decimals, if I see .081", I have to think a bit or look at a chart to see what fractional drill bit that is closest to.

And get the **** done already.

Yes thats a sweat fitting with 3/4 npt threads just like what he has except its a 1/4 turn ball valve.

My $0.02.

I hate people who use calipers on plumbing pipe. Looks galvanized and pipe thread. Interior 1/2"/exterior 3/4" thread.

If you're going to sweat a new fitting on, sweat a thread adapter so you don't have do it ever again.

A regular ball valve and a garden hose adapter would be better imo. More reliable and flow a **** ton more.

Even looks like there is enough pipe to cut the old valve off, clean the pipe with some Emory cloth or san cloth and slap a shark bite valve on there until you want to fix it right. :flipoff2:
Then it's always pointing in the correct orientation.

BTW --- you fix that faucet yet?
yeah, replaced the washer this morning. at least for now, it's not dripping. the old one was chewed up, and it felt like there was a somewhat sharp edge where the seal tightens down on, maybe part of the casting cracked off or something? not sure, either way it seals for now.

There is also a faucet seat that will needs to be changed as well.
That is what the washer seats on.

Just tighten it enough to shut it off, not hulk on it. It will last longer that way.

s p

There are seat tools to clean and fix them.
Otherwise it will chew up the new washer.

I used to have this one old dude that called us up every year to replace every washer in the house. I can't remember what brand we used that actually held up... Probably not relevant anymore though. I want to say korky gators? Rings a bell.

Edit: cutting seats makes no sense on this imo. Just replace it if it's that far gone
