"But Im not selling the vehicle without it"..

Thats when I was done.

Looking at something to maybe replace the JKUR.

Dealer added $1000 Gap and a $3200 warranty.

Take it or leave it. So I left.

This was actually either, my luck or irony.

I was looking at a 2 door, 2.0l Turbo JLR about 2 weeks ago. Was going to trade in my commuter, and JK.

My 48 Ford/Chevy thingy should be road worthy soon. Just have the 2 cars.

Why do you need gap?
Those were in the sales paperwork, apparently non-negotiable.

Didn't get far enough down that rabbit hole.

I told him, I have not heard of a finance company forcing a warranty. He said they weren't, then his posted quote.

But this was the deal of the century!!!

Thats as far as I made it.

Gap i can certainly understand as a liability thing. Warranty is probably do to a few people getting a bill they weren't prepared for and just abandoning the vehicles.

Not saying I agree with it but I could certainly understand wanting to push it if youve been burned a few times and banks not wanting to do buisness with the dealership anymore.

The dealers make BANK on warranty sales. I believe they buy them for pennies on the dollar.

the last new one I purchased was in 2000
I called the dealer, he said this is the price
I said that I wanted something else that wasn't as nice
He said that he would have to order it, but he needed 500.00 to place the order
I sent him 500.00
He told he that when it is on its way, I have three days to get it off the lot
He called, I was there a couple of days later with a check and I was out of there in probably 20 min

less than 30k for my gen2 and they even filled up the tank all the way

This is how it should be done

Last time I was considering buying one, I couldn’t get a quote through email. They flat out refused unless I came by in person. Dip**** even scheduled a time for me to stop by and called me -back pissed off that I didn’t show.

Because after too many trips back to the dealer for little crap that stops working, people probably just surrender them and quit paying for them?
Sounds like oem is not covering a lot of things they used to and the dealership is tired of getting ****ed by the factory. Because you know, OP is going to drag his jeep in there for some small item that failed expecting it to be covered under OEM warranty.

I drove one when I was looking at overpriced 4 Runners. Was coworker’s daily.

Why is the B pillar where my shoulder is? How do you guys drive those things?

I made it almost a half mile before I turned back around and parked it. My Lezburu must be a full foot wider in the cab.

Are you referring to aftermarket warranty? Absolute waste of ****ing money. The one that I had wouldn’t even replace an $80 fog light housing that kept getting water in it and blowing bulbs. It’s not like I needed a new ****ing transmission.

Cars should be sold in vending machines. The salesman adds zero value to the equation.

Vehicles should be sold off the internet - go online, go through the "build and price" to put together what you want, pay your deposit, have it delivered.

Nope... "Build and price" one and then they show you the ones sorta kinda almost like that - and likely missing the key features you wanted - near you... :shaking:

You'd be better off getting a transmission replaced, it's less of a wear item than a light or brake pads

That's pretty much how we recently bought our BMW. Build on line, dropped off deposit at dealership. Even got to track on line the various stages of assembly and when it shipped from the factory, to when it arrived at the dealership. Dealership even delivered it to our house....

Mrs studies the car market as a hobby. She knows more about newer cars than I do, and many of the dealers apparently.

On more than a couple occasions we have gotten to the "negotiation table" to have Mrs completely mind **** the salesman with her knowledge of the market. She is like a human computer when it comes to numbers. On a couple occasions a salesman has looked over to me for something... anything...

Me- "This is her car, her deal"

We have walked out on more salesmen than I can remember.

People like her need to be hired out to keep things in check.

I've only bought one car at a dealership ever and it was a pleasant experience. Ex wanted a first gen scion xb and one local dealership had one. Test drove it, clutch is smoked but damned clean otherwise. They wanted $8k, said they would put a clutch in it for $500 causing me to laugh out loud. I pointed out the window at my truck and told the salesman I'd just put a clutch in my truck the night before on my brothers lift. He came back with $6500 which was what I was going to offer anyway. Signed and I ordered a clutch on the way home.

In retrospect I bet I could have knocked it down another G but at the time 8k was the going rate and $120 for a clutch and a couple hours labor was a steal to knock $1500 off.

I just got another Heep after 10 years without one. I'm trying to figure out how to get the driver position more comfortable and I've had it for a few months now. My old JK 2dr was either way more comfy, or now I'm pushing 50 and things just don't feel the same. I hate having a 4-door over a 2-door, but something has to pull my little boat to the river or dock. While it could probably do it, pulling a boat with a 2dr for 8 hours through Florida I95 is not my preference.

Walking away from the table sucks, but it is an oh so satisfying feeling too!

Personally, I buy GAP every time I buy something new or late model (my most recent is a '24). I'm paranoid. I know I have to finance some. Since my late 20s (after stupid lessons you learn in your 20s) I make sure I'm always on top, but markets change and GAP is cheap (I buy it through USAA, last one was $500). I know that without the ink dry the amount financed, taxes, etc, if I leave the lot and immediately get t-boned, I'll probably be on the hook for some of the $$.

Im a sucker and bought the warranty on the wife's Impreza. We had the Freestyle at the time and i was sort of over fixing it in the cold and snow.

They caught me at a weak moment.

I had a similar dip**** local. I'd contacted every dealer within 300 miles of me. I'd already test drove at the other local dealer. Knew what I wanted, they only came in 3 trim levels, the only other options were color and sunroof. Wasn't like there were a lot of options to choose from.

Dude wouldn't work with me via phone/email until I came in to "show him I'm serious." That just went all over me. I don't think he was prepared for a seemingly innocuous statement to set me off, the dumb ass got lit up. I was a couple weeks into shopping, had a pretty thorough spread sheet with contacts and offers, and was pretty damn insulted.

We did not buy from them.
