Traveling Tiny Toyota

It’s crazy what some people want the world to see.

I see it more as what some people aren't bothered by if the world sees it...

If more people in this area keep selling me cheap stuff that fits in the bed, I’ll keep driving it, :flipoff2:

If you make it up as far as the Harrisburg, PA area, let me know and we can meet for some non-romantic food and drink.

Flesheater’s was further than that. I’ll probably shoot you a pm next time I’m going to New Hampshire. Probably next spring

A fair number of good eats close to the I-81 from Carlisle to Harrisburg. I've been meaning to head down your way and will do likewise if I do.
And vise versa, quite a bit of hidden gems off I-81. I was on it 3 times today. :barf:

Drove down to 4x4 mechanics viewing on Saturday, and on the way home the charge light flickered and then went off. Drove it to brunch on Sunday and it wasn’t chagrin. So I drove it back to the shop to see what was up.

You can remove a 22r generator without pulling the radiator hose. I managed to get it out the front, but boy is it a tight squeeze.

Popped the old girl open and it looks like just Bearing and brushes job.

Hopefully those come in soon, because the following morning, the metros wheel bearings started screaming like this

More ****box fun.

1. Found a dirt cheap alternator and installed it, isn’t working and overcharging at 16 volts.

2. Replaced the voltage regulator, and nothing changed. Chased the wiring harness and found nothing outside of a bad choke circuit.

3. Rebuilt my old alternator to see if that makes a difference, it’s charging again, but at the 16v. It wasn’t charging before I rebuilt it.

4. Said **** it and got a GM 1 wire bracket and installed a spare 2 wire alternator. It doesn’t charge at all, I think it’s currently wired though a resistor, but if not, I’ll add one to see if that works.

At this rate, I will probably breakdown and plumb the gas tank feed into my generator and throw it in the bed. Then hardwire the battery charger onto the battery.

 Man that thing will really be something with double the horsepower:flipoff2:
I’m thinking the generator will power an electric supercharger. Or just a backup generator if I convert it over to electric.

Alternator plug was wired backwards. Drove this back to the farm the other week.

That North Star in the picture is dad and his buddy getting their sxs stuck.

Sat in traffic on parking lot I-81, meet some locals, picked up some rims. Pretty good little trip.

Poor thing has been locked up in storage during salt season. Just broke it out and installed a fresh battery and got it inspected on Monday :smokin:

2 days later the front headlight went out. :lmao:

Drove up to get a 305 v6 for an irate member. And picked up this adorable wrench.

Pulled out a crew cab square body with all the extra traction.

If my year couldn’t be any more fun. The new fuel pump kicked out on me on my way home this evening. Tried the old Gatorade gas bottle to eliminate the tank and it still won’t drink, fyi, it’s $25 for a new fuel dispenser at the gas station. It’s only $2 for the Gatorade bottle or $4 for a gallon jug of water.

Glad this happened here and not on the road.

Awesome little truck and adventures! I have a 1978 that's my little project and cruise around town truck. I wish it was as clean as yours.

Yours is as clean as mine is. Does that seriously have a 2jz in it?

Reminds me of another truck I’ve helped work on. :homer:

Anywho, safe and sound. Glad to know the tow truck driver by name. And to add insult to injury, at this angle, the fuel tank started streaming out fuel up to the hood. :lmao: :mad3:

I followed that guys builds a bit, certainly way more crazy than anything I've done haha

I bought mine for $300 with no engine and the explicit intent to swap an engine in and tinker on it. It was between the 2JZ or a 1UZ. I got the job to fit without touching the body but had to put the radiator in the back. Right now it has a built 2jz (current iteration I just finished a few weeks ago) running off ECU Masters going to a 6 speed CD009 from a 350Z, and then to a 4 linked 9in.

I don't mean to derail your thread, your truck is awesome and I love seeing other old Hilux and so much you said is relatable haha!

That's him as a person too. He has slept in that thing more times than I could count. His suspension is definatly fabricobbled in there.

I ain't mad. All of my threads are blog posts anyways.

Man that thing is bad ass, It'd be a shame if you had a build thread with some random pictures. :flipoff2:

Edit. Link to his build thread. Build - 550hp 2JZ 1978 2WD Hilux

Loaded up with 4 40s and 7 smaller tires to get them all dismounted.

IMG_4481.jpeg

As I was leaving, I heard a voice beckoning to me. It sounded like there was a belt driven intake manifold nearby. So I drove that direction and ran into someone I’ve never met and I proceeded to drool over some promod goodness for an hour.

Got back to dismounting stuff and I forgot how nice a curved tailgate is.

Ran a few more errands and got a call to come pick up a pallet of milk crates, so I did, but forgot to get a picture with it in the truck.

Trucks running way better with a new fuel pump, the old one must have been bad out of the box.
