Anyone in or near Indianapolis? Ashke is stuck there with a badly broken vehicle

I stand corrected. We don’t have anything like that on the West Coast. Even if I put a spot in front of my house, it’s for anybody with a placard or a plate.
PA is weird. People can request a spot because street parking is common here. Normally you would be 100% correct. I don't think it's great to park a different vehicle in it anyway but Askes inlaws are special so it doesn't surprise me.

I swear to god above i will ****ing quit on the spot if they put another international turd anywhere near our lot again :flipoff2:

I worked for International and now i work for ford. Trust me when i say bringing up International diesels is not helping your point they ever made good stuff. And fords requests had nothing to do with the 6.0 and 6.4 being **** engines, the lazy engineers at IH did. They built literally two good diesels ever. The idi and the powerstroke 7.3s. Everything else from their road tractor garbage on down to their pickup engines was and is junk. We had a literal mountain of engine cores behind the service shop at all times. We averaged putting in about 12 engines a week at international. At ford its about 2 to 4. :flipoff2:

Rant over carry on. I just needed to let that one out. I dont know if international gas engines were any good, Ive never seen a truck old enough to have one that still ran:flipoff2:
What about the mechanical DT360/408/466? I have had a couple and thought they were great. Did I just get lucky?

Was there ever pics of numb nuts wife posted?

They are alright, but unlike the 7.3s they definitely have the ability to hurt themselves and do. How much of that is down to "I dont own this truck so **** it" driver mentality and the engine is up for debate. Im guessing the amount of them we saw broken had alot to do with them being in stuff old enough to have been handed down to the third mexican work crew that didnt check the oil....

YMMV.

It seems like most of them came in such a mild state of tune they couldn't hurt themselves but I ****ed with my p pump 408 to make it do better in the mountains and it took a beating. I also think DT360>Cummins 5.9 but I realize that may be a minority opinion. Most people have never heard of it.

Well, I figured he’s in his low 30s late 20s. About 30 years old I was the head engineer of two divisions of a very popular aftermarket parts company and had patents.

At first it during that period I lived on the beach near a bunch of bars and restaurants. It probably wasn’t the most responsible thing I ever did, but it was a heck of a lot of fun to spend your late 20s in low 30s in that party environment.

At 34 I bought my house. Couldn’t afford to live at the beach, but was getting ready to settle down and have a family.

Did I mention that my gf/eventual wife worked for a motion picture company and we competed for who made the most money each year.

At 38 years old, everything went to **** and I will let you have that. That’s where I bow out, but I don’t think he’s that old.

My lady drove an 05 Yukon and I drove a company 99 WJ v8. When I was injured, I was driving a lot in a FJ cruiser on 39’s It was borderline no smartphone time so no pictures but if you’ve ever seen Peterson‘s 4WOR you know the truck.

We had other cars, including a 98 Tahoe two door that I used to drive in Mexico all the time. New enough to be dead, reliable old enough to not get stolen. And then we had toys.
Damn man, I knew you had a great gig before the accident, didn't know it was that great.

How'd you get started? Engineering major out of collage and right into "aftermarket parts company?

In mild tune they were alot better than once they became old trucks people had been ****ing with and turning up. Most of the blown up ones i did see had some form of turning up on them. Jose saw one of them there youtube videos and figured he was a mechanic and they could finally make this thing get out of its own way... You can guess the rest.

I mean you arent entirely wrong but there is definitely a far greater sample size of 5.9s to DTs out there.

Glad you keep moving. God that neighborhood looks depressing. May just be the grey skies but that's about every day in PA. Get out of there ASAP.

You said your wife demanded you go there, that's BS. Get out of parent's house and don't buy any place that's had wheels under it

Gloat any harder and you might float away. :flipoff2:
Some of us didn't get the sharp end of the crayon to start with hoss.

Yeah avoid the Richmond cesspool, Also don't send his ass down my way :flipoff2:
He'd defiantly drive up junk vehicles in your area.

Don’t you have or work on a farm?

Sounds like plenty of room to store vehicles. In barns, under sheds, on the back 40, next to the entrance.

today spring GIF

:flipoff2:
Yeah I already stored his TJ here back during his boot camp days. I put a few hundred into it and many hours to unfuck a bunch of things so it was reliable. Im sure its new owner appreciates that.

I wasn’t going to chime in this go round, but what the hell.

What most people are trying to say is that you’re at an inflection point. When you move back to where you came from with ****ty influences , a ****ty hourly wage job, ****ty transportation, and ****ty living accommodations, what “progress” has been made? Just that you were a Marine?

You moved back to one of the 5 poorest states in the country and want to go work for the national parks? That’s a job for somebody that wants to live in an RV or has a spouse that makes good money. Money isn’t everything, but you went from being so destitute that being just on the other side of that line seems “fine”.

You are already starting to use your wife and in-laws as excuses for the way things are. Yes, women are going to want to be near their family. You compromise by living within a day’s drive of them (assuming you have a reliable vehicle for interstate travel).
I'm not using my wife as an excuse. There's a couple things going on here. For one, the USMC moves you back to where you came from or puts your stuff local. You don't get to pick anywhere else for them to move your household goods if you only did 4 years. If you pick somewhere else, you move it all yourself, on your dime, no paybacks or anything.

For another, for my place of actual living, it's the only one we have right now on account of it hasn't even been a month since I got out of the Marines, where else would we go? Can you maybe think for a second instead of just "oh the inlaws ******? You're clearly incapable of moving forward." I'm taking advantage of it to at least have somewhere we can jump from, quickly without having to rent somewhere, this way we can go straight to a house. I don't want to be here whatsoever. But when someone is willing to let you stay for free when you have kids and you're house hunting, you eat the **** for a few days, at least we don't have to pay rent and I can focus all that funding on a house.

We are house hunting. We have a few lines up to go see, and as soon as we find the right one, I'm pulling the trigger. I'm actively hunting for IT jobs but I don't have the certs so I'm assuming that's why no one has hired me or reached out, despite my very detailed and strong resume/history of Tier III/Enterprise level of work. I'm considering a trade, but. I don't know.

Nobody will ever reach out to you

If you want IT, you need the certs. No 2 ways about it, probably best to just grab whatever job is available right out the gate to get started with the certs.

But I don't do anything with IT, so maybe not.

I was applying for entry level IT jobs, roo. I wasn't going for just high end. I can't get entry level.

Do the cert mills not have employment fairs tied to them at the end as well?

I doubt it's like it was 20 years ago when you could grab an internship to get all the certs and employment right after in a entry level spot.

Or maybe the park ranger temporary management job opens up into something year round viable and turns into a career. Whose to say, every option is open for you right now

They do, but all the jobs were localized to California or required a ****ing degree.

Sounds like figure out for sure where you want to live vs what you want to do.

If CA is where the jobs are that you want, head out that way. If PA has a job that you want, go ahead and stay there.

If you like the weather in Alabama, head that way. Don't tie yourself to anything right now that you can't see a way forward with.

Don't know the rules for GI Bill, but if that's a thing for you, use it. Do some college stuff while getting paid and working on the side

It is. It goes you coverage for school and supplies and housing. It's awesome. I have no sense of direction for school because I always said I'd never do it.

I'd rather stay Midwest/East Coast. The cost living is ****ed on the West Coast. I guess we're not too far behind, though.

So who exactly is gonna rent to you or issue a mortgage with a temp to hire job you've been on for a week at whatever it pays?

Some would suggest that putting down roots in an economically repressed area before you locate and obtain stabilized income is rather short sighted...

Are the IT jobs you seek available in your area?

Something has to give.

Disappointed only exists when expectations don't meet reality. If you expect your dream IT job in a region that doesn't have those, you will always be disappointed.

If you need schooling for those jobs and you refuse to do it, you will always be disappointed

You just need your CoE from VA which I have, and proof of income for a VA loan. I'm not buying a house in PA, I hate this place. I'm looking primarily in West Virginia, and Ohio. There are some decent houses with property in decent areas with steady job market. There's a trade school I can go to in Bridgeport, Carpentry. Guaranteed full time job and Union, starting at 20/hr, plus other benefits, and after 4 years I'd be a journeyman. Same with the other trades. I could go start any one of them guaranteed, & union. Pipefitting. Electrician. Carpentry. But I just don't know.

There were quite a few in the tristate area, some remote, some not.
