Many of you know my dog Waffles is turning 16 in a few days, he has been the best dog I have ever had even possibly the best dog that has ever lived (just my opinion) but he is not going to be around much longer.

I just do not think i can live without a dog running to greet me when I come home, riding around with me, I just love them so much!

I have been thinking about getting another dog for the last year or so.

I started looking around yesterday, holy **** these breeders are ****ed in the head, the questions they ask and they even tell you things like if all questions are not answered in full you will be denied.

I have never paid a single dollar in my life for a dog, Waffles was found under a wood pile in the back 40 of a buddies house.

The dog I want, first of all the prices is crazy, when the hell did a dog become $5,000?

Second to that, they act like you need to earn the ability to give them the money.

Here are some of the questions this person wants me to answer before they will consider selling me an overpriced dog

What reference materials have you read?

Name, address and phone number of the veterinarian that will take care of your Pomeranian:

What kind of floor surfaces will the dog be on in the house?

How many hours on the average will the Pomeranian be left alone?

How long did your last pet live? What were the circumstances of it’s death?

Are you willing to write yearly to the seller of this Pomeranian about the health of said Pomeranian?

Are you willing to send a yearly photo of this Pomeranian to the seller?

Will you send to the seller a new address upon moving or your new email if changed?

There was a rescue company that had a couple nice looking dogs so I started to fill out the request form, I got about 4 questions in when I got so mad I closed that site out, the questions were so over the top intrusive.

I may just end up with another free dog, they are great anyway.

My old girl is 15...we are actively talking about when it's going to be time to make the call to the vet :frown:
Gave $100 for her. Black lab/english mastiff mix. Best dog I've ever had, and I've had dogs since I was about 6. She saved my life, literally, when I lived up in Michigan. Fiercely loyal, intelligent, protective, outgrew being a big dumb puppy pretty quick...

Never saw a vet the first 10 years of her life outside of getting fixed at a spaying clinic and yearly rabies vax at the tsc.

The last 5 have been rough. Cancer cut off her chest twice, monthly shots for what was diagnosed as arthritis. Found out its not arthritis, but rather some neurological condition that causes loss of feeling/control and muscle wasting. Starts in the hind legs and moves up the spine.

She used to look like a ****in bear at 115 lbs...last time she was in the vet she was sitting around 83.
:bawling:

Not looking forward to looking at other dogs...
But im ****ing sold on lab/mastiff mixes. I hate purebred labs though. Cannot stand the hyperactive too smart for their own good dumb **********ers.
Any dog mixed with a lab....guaranteed good dog. Its the damndest thing.

Man, there are so many dogs looking down the barrel of euthanasia....WTF would you even talk to a breeder?!?

If you're deaf, or a DEA cop, or hunt ducks, sure, but for a companion?!?

Save a life.

This big dummy came from the pound. He was just laying at the back of his cell, ignoring everyone. They said "Black animals never get adopted, we always have to kill them." He was the best.

Wtf is wrong with you? Were you born this dumb or did you snort to much blow in Miami? Seriously you cant seem to handle any part of your life without posting it for the world to approve.

Find a ****ing shelter walk the aisle and pick the one that reacts to you. I have 4 dogs, 3 that wandered into our lives and one working breed. He's the only one I paid for, purpose bred and trained. I sure as **** wouldnt pay for a poof to dust the floor.

The funniest dog thing is people paying for mutts. Labra doodle, etc. :lmao:

Those things aren’t worth a nickle and many have behavioral and training issues.

crispins its a sales tactic. If they play hard to get, buyers believe they are more desirable. They talk big, act like they are picking you but charge more. It’s a self importance thing as well, disguised as care for the animals.

Ever been in a breeders home? The house smells like the walls, floors and ceiling have been smeared in a coat of dog skin grease. Those houses end up being tear downs.

They really don’t care, they just want to sling dogs for as much as possible.

It’s that or it’s a part of the Ohio puppy mill run by the Amish. The Ohio mills account for most the puppies in stores up and down the east coast. Some of them go right to breeder fronts. They have very good looking paperwork. I might know a dozen people as I type this that thought they were getting a great big $ dog but found out it came from the Ohio puppy mills. Saw it in NY, the Carolina’s, and Fl.

Go get a dog off Facebook or from the pound. Breeders do not always equal better. AKC means absolutely nothing at all.

My kids really want a dog. But we are all away from home too much for one.

The other day we were in Wichita and my wife said lets stop at that dog store called Puppy Dreams. We had no intention of buying one from them but they let the kids play with the puppies for free. My wife is all about free entertainment for the kids.

Its crazy the dogs there are $3-5k. But the lady said we have payment plans…..SMDH. Who finances a dog?

I told my wife, I bet none of these dogs sell. I asked the lady what they do when they are there so long they are not cute puppies anymore. She says oh the price goes down the longer they stay but she said the longest she saw one stay was about 3 weeks and that most of them sell in under a week. I was astonished.

My best 2 dogs were a free Australian Shepherd that just showed up one day while my dad was building fence then followed him home and she never left.

The other was a Jack Russell that did come from a local breeder but was not over priced. Plus she was discounted because she had a kinked ear which she grew out of.

I have never been in a breeders home, that is an intersting take on the questions they ask.

I think you are right that some of them may do it for that reason.

To everyone saying get a rescue / free dog I know, Waffles was a free mutt and is freaking awesome. I love rescue dogs, mixed breeds, best dogs ever.

This is going to be my last dog, I want a small dog I can travel with, bring with me in a bag, that kind of thing.

This is what I want

That thing is insanely cute.

Go find yourself a purse-dog at the pound.

They are adorable, we will be crate training it for sure, will not make the mistake we made with Waffles which was allow him to sleep in the bed.

I'm sure shelters arent all the same. Last time I went to the used dog store, it was a ****ing joke. Dont know many folks that get animals from there anymore because of that.

Add in the chance that whatever you get from there is going to be broken in one way or another...Makes that an easy pass IMO.

Folks made the comment a while back. That it was easier to adopt a child than to get a dog outta a the pound. :homer:

I'd be looking for a free mutt or buying a pup outta somebodys backyard

My aunt payed $10,000 for some type of tiny dog. ****ing ****!
My SIL paid $6k for a puppy. A Yorkiepoo or something like that. Was only supposed to be 5lbs when full grown. They had it about a week when my BIL accidentally stepped on it and killed it. So they went back to the same breeder and got another one. $12k in a month to end up with less than 5lbs of dog.

There is no need to spend money at a breeder.

The dog on the left was a stray that walked up to my parents house. The dog on the right came from the shelter.

Those are both adorable!

I promise you, if a cute Pomeranian puppy walks up to my house I will let him in.

That is a horrifying story!

If I accidently killed a puppy I would not get another one, I would have to think that I do not deserve a puppy.

My niece (7yo) had been talking about wanting that breed for over a year before they got the first one. She had saved up $1k to put towards the cost of the dog. Her and my 5yo nephew were pretty devastated by the ordeal.

I see, that makes sense, still horrifing.

Side note - how the heck does a 7 year old save $1000?

I doubt I ever had more than a dollar at that age.

She did some lemonade stands and things like that. She also did things like make earrings and bead bracelets to sell. She has 3 aunts who would say things like "oh, $20 for 3 bead bracelets. How many can I get for $50?"
