6.7 Super Duty Maintenence/Mods

Just got a call back from the dealer, the truck just needed new PCM/TCM calibrations and it resolved both my no boost issue and occasional harsh 6-5 downshift with no hard parts changed. $450 well spent with the dealer as it turns out.

Way better news than one of my Cummins ISL9 trucks needing new injectors to the tune of $9650 from Cummins for just the injectors themselves.

These software updates are more numerous than my smartphone! :shaking:

Ordered all the parts to do an emissions "optimization" to my 22 F350 on Monday. Tunes were emailed to me and the hard parts will be here Saturday. Funny part about the EGR, CCV and DPF optimization parts is that they are shipping out of Ontario California. ****in ironic ain't it? :lmao:

Maybe Newsom has a side hustle. You know what they say about people who speak out loudly against something....

I hate that the future is this. They want to update your vehicle. You don’t get to say no. They just do it via satellite while it’s parked. My work truck did it last night and I got those alerts all day yesterday
I still think at this point you could fairly easily disconnect the modem and not give it a wifi password and prevent OTA updates.
At some point that might cripple the systems to prevent that.

My truck isn’t connected to any internet. Don’t have internet at my house. I don’t have ford pass on my phone either. I’m that boomer that refuses to allow technology to creep into my life. I’m this close to changing the username for everything I’m on to Anna_log

Work required backup alarms, decided to do it myself and not risk someone else cutting up wiring in a big dumb expensive truck.

Built a harness that uses the trailer extension connector for the 5th wheel bed extension to feed reverse signal. Then relayed off an up fitter switch to turn it off when I’m not at work.

Spent all this time making a harness then ran out of time and did a **** job routing and mounting it :homer: It’s on the “fix it later” list.

Since I was running from the front to the back of the truck anyways for the up fitter 12v to the relay, I did a bundle of 5 wires for future incase I want some bed lights or reverse lights. Don’t want to have to do that again.

Also did the PTO high idle resistor while I was in there messing with up fitter switches. Needs yellow/green, didn’t pay attention and there’s two… so didn’t work because of course I picked the wrong one. Instead of re splicing I just de-pinned the connector and flipped the two yellow/green pins and bingo bango.

If it has the antennas on the roof it is likely it's connecting to the Internet, just not using your help.

Just because you don't participate doesn't mean it's not.

That’s what I’m trying to articulate.

The 2024 up, don’t need my consent to be connected to the internet or satellite or whatever. I don’t participate but it still “updates” regardless of my consent. So know that in advance!

..... Almost feel bad posting this......

Truck Back Up Alarm for 7-Way RV Blade (Packaged) SKU #57727 by CURT Truck Back Up Alarm for 7-Way RV Blade (Packaged)
Ha I know those exist, I thought about getting one just temporarily incase I didn’t finish before the April deadline. I liked the “smart” alarm of the ECCO model I got, it detects ambient noise and adjusts loudness appropriately.

Also this all went on the work credit card so I got some spools of decent automotive GXL and loom out of it :flipoff2:

The parts are piling up for my trucks 100k service. Changing the trans fluid/filter and installing the extra capacity aluminum pan is on todays schedule.....

Most of my delete parts are here too. Im just waiting on the EGR and CCV stuff that is set to be delivered on Tuesday.....

Good timing on your post...

I'm looking at this exhaust:

How accurate is that "82% less BP" claim?

And...is it worth the investment?

Banks stuff is good, but almost always overpriced. $550 is crazy for "cat back

Without doing anything else, it's pretty much pointless. But if you must, mbrp is decent and about 1/2 the price

I paid around $550 for a 5" downpipe back stainless exhaust. $550 for that Banks kit is definitely high.

Dont bother with any mods until you buy a DCR injection pump. That should literally be your first "mod". Exhausts are wastes of money, and do nothing if you don't do a delete. Do you really need more power?????

If that Banks exhaust has 82% less back pressure than stock without removing the DPF, my truck should have at least 258% less back pressure with all that bull**** removed. I think ol' Gale might be talking out of his ass with his 82% less back pressure claim....:shaking:

Warranty it? Trading it in right away?

Weight loss program?

Option 3 is where my head would be at. Anything newer than what he owns now is even more computerized and big brothered than his current truck. My 2025 F550 service truck is ******ed compared to my 22, and my 2022 is pretty bad.

I filled the whole def tank a few weeks ago, I assume it's ****...
If I can figure out how to easily pull a sample I'll test it and drop it out if it's weak.
If the def is good I'll let the dealer unfuck it. 23k miles is not gonna get any effort out of me while there is warranty coverage.

If you took that thing to the dealership here, they’d put it in the back lot and get around to looking at it in 4 weeks. Is your experience different than that?

Looking for some real world feedback as it relates to the current Super Duty's. My CPA has advised me that I need to replace my current farm truck for tax reasons. I can get Ford X pricing through the Texas Cattle Raisers Association so currently considering a 2027 F350 SRW long wheel base. It would have the high output 6.7 (they got rid of the regular output), Lariat, Tremor with a Pronghorn UT Bed. My current truck is an 08' Chevy diesel that has been rock solid all these years, but I fear the newer diesels....that said though I am familiar with DEF as my larger Deere tractor uses the crap. I've researched until my eyes have bled, but sounds like CP4 issues can be there, weird trans shifts at times, random software updates I've read here, anything else of concern?

I appreciate hearing from those who actually work these trucks, not use them as commuters. Thanks

It's never been to a dealer so I can't say.
But we have A LOT of dealers to chose from so I'd be surprised if it was that long. I have some recall **** to go on it so I might call to schedule an appointment. Code cleared and didn't come back on a short drive to get tacos.

Does anybody make a DEF booster than can be added to the tank to up the concentration?

I have seen some products that report to do that, and I suppose if you were good with math you could add straight urea to your tank to get the desired ratio but IMO that's not worth risking when DEF is so cheap and the volume is not so small.

I wouldn't have cleared the code if you are taking it for service. Probably a permanent code still stored, but you'd know if it went inactive and cleared on its own then. It's a NOx efficiency code, so it'll take a while to either clear or come back on its own depending on your drive cycle.

I live in fairly rural NW Illinois and my local dealer in a town of 1k people got me in within 3 business days of calling to set up an appointment and ready for pickup the same day it went in.
