Bad zukis thread made me think we need a thread to compile all the mods people have done to thier containers. My current work used 20s and 10s(8s?) for a lot of stuff. I'll post some of those later after I get a chance to get pics.

After using a few of the newer style with one big handle, I wanted to swap mine over. 1" pipe hammered over my handles nice and tight. Not necessary, but easier, especially for the wife and kid to get the weed Wacker out. Classed it up with some duct tape to keep wasps out of the tube.

At the same time I bolted a simple piece of angle iron to the flat bar web on the doors for chains and binders so they're not in pile outside.

I built a metal rack into one side when I first bought it. Only takes up 8" I want to add some trays in a few levels for smaller material.

One brainfart was a 20' container won't fit 20' sticks with the door closed, not a huge deal for me as I'm not doing production or anything.

Now I just need to organize the whole thing :homer:

Poor effin yota...

Cut in a man door.
Fixing to install an rv heater by cutting 2 grill holes in the wall and mounting it all in a low bench.
Exterior ladder for access up top.

Poor effin yota...

My wife makes fun of me putting in there since it's been outside since 1982

It's all complete, just had zero maintenance while it was abused for 30 years. Now that the camper is gone, I might pull it out and get the conex more organized and some other stuff in there instead of outside.

Have considered one at home to store stuff in but never pulled the trigger.

Pricing always seems to be up and down on these. Are there tricks to getting the best deals?

These are the same price, when we got them...
10x12 tuffshed "hers"
Low cube 40' conex "his"

From what I've seen, the best price is the one in a dudes yard with no way to load it

That is pretty cool that you own the truck you rode home in as a newborn.

I imagine that is a solid way to get one. Do you have a tow driver move them, or use a winch to pull them onto a deck over, or?

I thought you must spray foam those things or they sweat so much it’s like rain in there.

I saw the talk about that on bad zukis thread. I've never seen it, but I also don't live in Florida.

Ya, want to do a resto mod kinda thing someday

I used a tilt deck from my old work and chained a receiver winch to the front. Once up there, I moved it the last 4-6" with the ratchet binders. Getting the front to pop up onto the trailer is the hardest part. I winched it up close, the used the hydraulic tilt to lift the conex and put a couple log rounds under to help it slide, then kinda adjust the angle to also help it along. An empty 20' is pretty easy to manipulate, even at 5k lbs.

I'd imagine you could call around and see what guys would charge. I'd think a normal rolloff truck could haul a 20'.

I know my buddy was looking for someone to move his 40' and his buddy with a landfall didn't want to do it because he claimed dragging it up tore up his deck. So might be stuck using an actual container guy, if they'll do it.

**** I like that, even better if you could somehow have piece that can extend out beyond the container to load in a truck.

Lift an engine out of your truck and slide all the way in the back or visa versa.

Post pics.

Absolutely no, do NOT spray foam the insides of shipping containers. You will create a whole new set of problems with container metal rotting out.

Ventilation is the key for these things. I have a couple house attic eve vents I’ll be installing in mine soon.

Basically you install a vent down low on one side towards one end. Then install another vent on the other side at the other end but high. These vents typically have screening on them to prevent critters from gaining access through it.

Cut out a square hole of right dimensions. Then weld in either small c channel or angle iron around the edges of the cutout hole. This will give you a flat mounting surface to install the vents.

Second is to install a humidifier in the container if possible

Best is to fur the walls on the inside wall ms with 2x4”. Then plastic and metal or whatever wall covering suits your needs. The metal container walls need to be able to breath to prevent condensation and den… rust and mold.
