Wisconsinite and Crispins are legends

Rent something fun. No one says you have to go 10/10ths. See if Crispins has a connection...

Lots of wrecks there with people driving past their ability as it is.
Renting a car is dumb. Can I borrow yours? It couldn't be much different than hitting hwy 49 or mosquito ridge could it? An old v6 Honda accord with a 5 speed would work just well.

Might be a stretch for you, I am ways away.
You ever come out this way send a message.

Haven't you heard, rentals are the fastest vehicles on the road. They might even rent a Miata in that area/something similar. Do not need a ton of HP to have fun at the Dragon. You will likely be in the 2nd and 3rd mostly between on the brakes and off.

Ask Crispins for Porsche keys:flipoff2:

100k-ish is well into "big city" to me.

Surprised about your wal-mart statement.

Once our town hit 4k they built the (then) 7th largest WM in the country here (next closest was only 32 miles away). Thus began the downfall of our quiet little town. Now we have 4 stoplights, WM, Autozone, Orilies, Tractor Supply, Harbor Freight, Smiths

Now we're pushing 7k pop. It's not "big city" but its full on suburb of ABQ and pisses me off.

The suburb part is what gets you. 130 miles gets me to the 1 City in the state that officially has 100k people. 120 miles the other way gets me to 60k.

But by the same token 100+ miles any other direction and I won't see a town over 1k.

That's exactly why I wanna do it.

I like to set the 5spd in whatever gear whatever gear is one gear above the "would just hold speed not accelerate" gear. Ride it up from like 2xxxRPM to 3500 (i.e fastest speed I can probably downshift at without it being instantly a money shift). Cook the rotors up to "see the glow at night but not during the day" temp for a few seconds, bringing it back down to 2xxx RPM and then let them cool as I coast up again.

My understanding is that the grade isn't that bad. It's the curves and **** that make it a driving attraction.

And with the benefit of hindsight would you a) go through the weigh station b) take the same route but start the descent slower?

I wasn’t on the dragon, some similar road in Virginia. hill wasn’t the right word. mountain and it was a switchbacks all the way down. there were a few pull off spots, but I never felt I was going slow enough to use them.

I posted the red rotors on pie rat. a member said he can burn up a set of brake pads on his motorcycle end to end if he’s really getting it on the same rd.

if I HAD to do it again, I would’ve stopped at the first and every pull off that existed. Starting slower wouldn’t have helped, speed limit was 35? it was steep. once the pads started off gassing pushing the pedal more made no difference.

Oh the drive line parking brake? I got to use that three times. The fourth pull was just jingles.

Bringing Betty down (under gvrw) pikes Peak from Devils playground with no front brakes was less stressful.

Lol. Every single person on my mom's side of the family is slc area. I miss fishing and "camping" at Pineview Lake

Crispins is probably a hour and 20 minutes from me. Do you think he leaves the keys on a hook in the kitchen? I will drop a few bottles of shine on his porch the night before.

Drop me a pin, lol.

Was it route 6 leaving Bad Zuki's house?

Going slower helps a ton. Spread the energy out over more time. Basic math. But you gotta really go slower, not like 55 instead of 60.

Think what you want, I don't care. But it is pretty common knowledge that you pull over for faster people behind you. There is ZERO passing opportunities without putting people in danger.

Have you been there?

Sal Fish used to say that about desert racers. "Dude caught you, he's already proved he's faster than you, let him by."

Some guys I know took their HD dressers down the tail and one guy cooked the rear brake and get off the road and up a hillside, (IIRC), he blamed it on his wifes fat ass.

Wisconsinite that's awesome that you made the trip down! I've gone a couple of times and it's worth the drive. It was my motivation to get the STi put together with a built engine to make a trip this fall and chase my dad around there in his 911. It's just a different ballgame than the roads we have in SW WI or NW IL.

I'm putting another one together with some NY buddies in the fall

that has to be sped up, hopefully!
Nope...

There is a little road next to my mothers house that is one of the testing ground for the Monte Carlo Rallye.
My best time on this road was around 8mn. Sebastien Loeb was doing it during testing in sub 4mn...
They are ungodly fast.

The urge to put coilovers and decent brakes on the camaro and drive down the back side of the mountain is very high...
I have a Wilwood BBK ft/rr on the M3
This (and some exceptional tires) is the best money spent on this vehicle.

Personally, I'd love too, but I'd have to upgrade to bigger rims too.
I'd burn them off faster but the 305 is pretty gutless. Also, I'd loose sidewall for the offroad courses. :lmao:
