Are people driving slower?

Here's one.

You're in a car on a twisty road. Motorcycle appears behind you.

You let them pass? I always pull over for them and my wife said she'd never think about doing that.

Depends on if you're being an ass or not

oddly enough the worst offenders in my area are teslas, just absolutely going slow everywhere to not run that battery down.

Based on my experience most Tesla owners are liberals who bought them as status symbols before Elon bought X. Instead of buying a Camry because "look at me I'm so practical this thing is gonna go a million miles on oil changes" they all bought Teslas because "electric is the future, peasant". These people are going to drive the same ******ed speed whether they're doing it in a ~500hp Tesla or a ~100hp Prius. They don't know how to drive well because they never learned, because they never cared to lean.

Around here the fleet is finally starting to turn over and Teslas are starting to drive more normally because normal people are buying them as normal used cars and the people who bought them because fast EV are still hanging onto them.

Contrast with the people who bought German EVs. I've never seen an E-tron not full ****ing send it through an on-ramp.

I was just noticing the same thing the other day. Seems like the old Tesla drivers dumped them all and now they're sorta affordable used, the new drivers are liking the power. I see them having more fun driving now.

I learned to drive in Europe. Over there staying on the left lane unnecessarily is super rude, so I don't do that. And it makes my blood boil to have people park on the left lane holding traffic, without the slightest remorse. Something only Americans do.

In the SW we're full of south-of-the-border immigrants who maybe didn't ever drive a car before getting to the US, so our wonderful DOT apparently has one question for them, "can you fog a mirror". In truth there is a written test as well as a driven test with an examiner, but it boggles my mind that all these people passed both tests. And it's cultural, the macho-men don't want to be passed even if you were going 5mph faster and slowly caught them, they'll speed up to match your speed unless you blow by them 20mph over, and the women just camp in whatever spot and look straight ahead with no cognizance of what is going on in the other three directions...often in the left lane. Then there's the snow-birds, Canadians, Badgers, Iowans, etc., they're almost as bad as the Puta's.

gotta love the "leave early" people chiming in. guess we know who strolls into the office/shop at 801am after doing 5 under all morning :flipoff2:

my point is that if people could just drive the speed limit and not be afraid of everything, then the world might actually work lol

why would someone drive 5-10 under in the middle of the day or at rush hour. why? why the **** did you leave your house. unless youre an 80yr old woman, drive the speed limit at least. if someone is riding your ass and clearly in a bigger hurry then you, pull over and don't be a ****. i pull over for people all the time if they want to go even faster than i do.

here's some revolutionary ideas for all the bumpkins driving miss daisy all day:

if you're not going to do at least 10 over on the highway, stay in the right lane.
if you're going to pass someone, ****ing pass them. not creep by them over the course of 4 miles
if you're approaching a roundabout, don't slow down to the point that the car entering from the other side has time to make you have to stop.
if you're approaching an empty roundabout, don't come to a complete stop
if the two brain cells bouncing around in your head have managed to somehow get you into the roundabout, then don't stop in the roundabout to let someone in
if you have the right of way, just take it for ****s sake. stop trying to be "friendly" by holding up 20-30 cars for the sake of one. its called math.

everytime i get to see someone do some absolute reckless hood rat driving i cheer because i finally see a non-pussy who has a concept of space, time, and velocity. the average car is far more capable than the average driver. how many cops lose pursuits to ****in Hyundais and **** lol

Not here. I had someone pass me on the way to work. I was going pretty quick, but apparently they needed to do 60+ in a 25.

IDK, I feel like I'm driving in a 3rd world country sometimes.

The other day I was on an on ramp, and of course the car in front of me slowed to a crawl. 55 mph higway, plenty of room to get up to speed and merge.

I was in my dodge, took one look in the mirror and seen an opening. So I pinned it , grabbed 4th and jumped right into the highway traffic. What was hilarious was I had it WOT in 4th, and when I went over an expansion joint it just lit up the right rear tire. So I went past slow poke at 3100 rpm , 45 psi of boost, and smoke rolling off the right rear 37 inch good year. :lmao:

A big one is the road from Phoenix to Flagstaff, surprise it's uphill. It's two lane divided, but in one of those lanes you might have an 18 wheeler, or some overloaded 5th wheel combo going 45 in the slow lane, meanwhile all the 4 wheelers and RV's with snoz, are trying to go 75, and guess what there's not enough room on the overloaded highway, so the fast lane slows to 65 or even less, which then causes some ****head to scoot along in the slow lane and just before he crashes into the back of said 18 wheeler, dips back into the fast lane and immediately hits the brakes which causes a sea of red lights in that lane, and/or a pileup. Happens all the time.

Drive for conditions people.

I LOVE having faster vehicles pass me. They don't obstruct me and make me getting a speeding ticket far less likely. What's not to like?

I learned a long time ago to not be the fastest on the road, I also have used a Valentine One for over 20 years and only got one speeding ticket in that time.

We've got one of those near me. I've been driving it for ~10yr and never seen one accident or any ****** braking either despite the truck lane being used like that all the time. It's pretty great IMO.

I think those big wide open spaces and lack of real traffic turn people into **** complacent drivers.

oh yeah, don't even get me started on why so many people think they should merge onto a 65mph highway at 35mph.

That's a huge one for sure. Most of the onramps here are long and even the HD trucks can get up to merge speed, there's no excuse not to.

I always looked at it as drivers licenses come in a cereal box. Written/computer test and have a good day.

All so more could get from/to work and pay taxes...

In contrast in Europe it costs a lot of money, and it requires a skill to be issued a license. Goes for the motorcycle riders too.
Of course one cannot prevent idiots there, just not as many as here stateside.

When I was out in B.C. traffic was well behaved save for the Asians behind the wheel - that bunch is just horrible.

Since I reside in UT, and having been just about everywhere within the continental US I always say Utards are the worst drivers in the nation.
Always in a hurry to get into the next accident/cause an accident for someone else.

Last time heading up the 87 to payson in the motorhome, 35mph on some of the hills......

I really need to turn that pump up.

Both states I’ve lived in also have laws that require you to pull off the road and let traffic pass if there’s 4 or more cars stacked up behind you. No one seems to realize that either. It’s a bread and butter stop for troopers looking for dope. Drug runner thinks doing the exact speed limit no matter what isn’t gonna get em hemmed up.

My commute this am. Main road from my neighborhood to the highway, speed limit is 35. Brand new tundra in front me doing 29 the whole way. Why. ****ing why. Some boomer/fudd chime in and tell me what I’m missing.

Large somewhat complicated roundabout once we get into town. Car in front of me is at a dead stop, no one currently in the round about at all surprisingly. Car waits long enough that another car enters from 12 o clock and comes all the way around and the car in front of me gets behind it. Why. ****ing why. They got a nice long press on the horn.

Also why is honking at someone such a cardinal sin? Every foreigner I’ve driven with will honk 100 times in a ten minute drive and no one in their country gets offended.
People here act butthurt about getting honked at.

Not here. I had someone pass me on the way to work. I was going pretty quick, but apparently they needed to do 60+ in a 25.
That would be me.

Town put in one of those little solar “your speed” signs, I’m usually 55-58 and it’s a 25mph zone.

I love my drive to work, 15 miles 20 minutes and might see 4 other vehicles. 0525-0545.

And the stretch of rt 2 east of North Adams that arse hat was talking about can absolutely suck. It is the main route for fuel from Albany NY to western MA, so tankers can block some serious traffic coming over the mountain.
Days off I would get up at 0400 and run the Mach 1 over this stretch of road as hard as I could.

Maybe it's in my head, but I swear people are driving a lot slower these days than even 5 years ago. Maybe no so much on the highway, but definitely everywhere else. Often even below the speed limit.

Anyone happen to notice this?

Maybe it's the legal :smokin:
One eye on the phone, one on the car in front of you, repeated for a 5 cars.

Again. Why. This bull**** attitude of “I’m not in your hurry” ……fine, pull over and let people by. Be the asshole that drives five under and clogs the whole ****ing system up, the asshole that walks into work at 8:05, the asshole who shows up to their doctor appt at 10:07, whatever. Don’t be butthurt when someone gets irritated about it.

I’m gonna be such an angry boomer someday

oh yeah, don't even get me started on why so many people think they should merge onto a 65mph highway at 35mph.
And around here, merging traffic does NOT have the right of way. It's up to yourself to merge onto the freeway safely, nobody else.

But everyone seems to think they do. So the person in the rh lane moves to the left to let someone on the freeway, and then just sits there and never moves back. Most of the time they end up right next to each other and neither one gives a ****.

It was ~6-7pm. Traffic should be ****ing flying since it's just after rush hour but still kind of a commuting time.
I've caught myself tootling along under post speed cause that section of road ALWAYS has traffic so i'm just not used to going faster on it when there is no traffic. Weird feeling honestly.

Most times I'll hug the shoulder, then it's up to you if you want to pass.
Yup. I'll wave em on too just to get them off my ass.

oddly enough the worst offenders in my area are teslas, just absolutely going slow everywhere to not run that battery down.
Indian's speeding? No way.

Slowpoke needs new ears after that

Yup, let Arse be the one getting a ticket. :grinpimp:

I live in South Florida So we have Europeans South Americans Caribbeans Asians and Africans and even Australians all driving like Asshole all over South Florida from Boca raton to Homestead 😂 they bitch about the price and then launch off the traffic light

You are in a completely different state than me...
Mass is keep it below 100 on the interstate and don't pass cops while doing Mach Jesus.
Va 20 mph over the limit or 85 mph is reckless with $2500 in fines and 12 months in jail. They are happy to stop you for any speed over 15 mph over the limit and give you a ticket anywhere. No radar detectors either. Virginia ****s speeders.
