2008 Tundra 4x4 issues. No dash lights, no shifting.

I have a 2008 tundra I’m helping a friend fix some issues on.

Most if not all the info online has to do with flashing 4x4 lights, shift motor corrosion.

We have a good 4x4 fuse, but zero action from the 4x4 switch, no dash lights at all.

Couple questions…
Do the 4x4 dash lights come on with the ignition and turn off typically?

Do these have a 4x4 module like the chevys that fails?

Other thoughts on what to check?

If the 4Hi light isn't flashing I would be very suspicious of the switch. As I recall the 4Hi or 4Lo light will always start flashing as it attempts to shift before going solid that it has shifted. If the dash isn't showing anything I think I would start with pulling the 4WD switch and probe it, though I'm not sure if it's CANBUS so maybe that's easier said than done. Been a minute since I ****ed around in that area, but if you pull the center console trim then the climate control bezel area will pull out and can reach around to the switch.

I’ve had the switch out and apart, it has simple copper contacts and a small circuit board.

Looks and seems to be functioning.

I wish…the ecu would show 4x4 data, but it doesn’t so you’re stuck with pinpoint tests.

Just replaced the transfer case in mine, found a low mileage 08. My understanding on mine was that mixing other years may create compatibility issues with the transmission or motor. Hope that you find a cheaper resolution

He already picked up a spare assuming it was the actuator.

It would be premature to install it I believe based on not having any flashing lights.
