My wife's black with lots of silver flake in the paint Lincoln Nautilus got hit the other night.

It was struck on the side by a white trash person in a older Honda Accord that was dented on every panel.

I found a door same color (damage is just on the rear drivers side) and plan to make the 6 hour round trip to get it monday.

My wifes truck is paint corrected, polished, and ceramic coated.

Anyway we have progressive, we filed the claim with them and they quickly came back with an estimate of $2300 (which should take care of it to restore it to how it was) however they say my $2000 deductible comes out of that so they want to cut us a check for $300.

I had always heard it was best to contact your own insurance company and get the money from them and let them go after the other party but that seems like a ****ed up way to do it as I would not even get enough to repair the vehicle.

Here is how the SUV looked, it was in 100% perfect flawless condition. This replacment door is from a vehicle 5 years old and many more miles.

I am already getting warned that if her truck does not look the same she wants a new one.

I created the way she is as I am ****ing nuts with my vehicles so I am not mad at her for her opnion.

Also would you buy a used door and put it on to keep factory paint (that I would then have corrected, polished, and coated) or would you let the body shop just spray a random door the flaked black that I know will not match for ****?

Spend the $2.3k to get it fixed, sell it and buy a different one, it'll never be right

Higher deductible has probably saved you more than 2k between claims, previous and going forward
Well, hmmm.

Two seperate issues here that I want advice on.

1) how to deal with insurance as I think I have it wrong
2) how to fix this car so it meets my wife's standards and I dont have to lose money buying her a new vehicle.

Also, FYI, her truck was a left over model, got it for Zero down and Zero interest and about $20k less then they are currently going for.

Her truck is freaking great, there is no need to replace it. I wish she would let me use it, i like it way more than my Tundra

Other driver uninsured?

If so, it falls to your uninsured motorist. If you have a 2k deductible, is what it is. Get yourself a local quote and beat the insurance company up on the price.

Fix the doors and do all the labor yourself, end up just shy of right and not be out any money

Recognize insurance is a scam, so it won't ever go as it should

How about a pic of the damage?

Perfect or go spend $$$$$ to get another isn't a rational way to live. Sure there's pride in having nice things, but also freedom in not being emotionally crushed when its no longer perfect. Slap a door on, buff it and move on. And submit the claim to the other insurance, there's no deductible on what they owe you. If you'll fight for free chicken you can handle fighting their insurance.

no, police report filed.

Other party clearly at fault

Did they have (valid) insurance? If is, your insurance company should be going after them and you shouldn't be paying any deductible. You could also open a claim with the other company directly, but if you've already started the process through your company, it's probably too late.

What about their insurance?

I've had a few of my trucks run into. Their insurance company cut a check to the body shop. As a bonus they got to pay to remove 90s splash graphics from an entire crew cab long box because they couldn't buy the stickers for 1 door

Progressive is likely processing it as an uninsured motorist claim because you called them.

If they didn't have insurance, then
I do not know if they had good insurance at all.

They were only able to produce an email from their insurance company, no card at all.

Now if they did not have valid insurance my uninsured ($300,000 limit as I am not fukcing around) policy would cover it but it would be subject to my $2k deductible.

I guess I need to wait until the police report is available and go directly to their insurance.

You do know on this site forever they have said the best method is to submitt the claim to your insurance comapny and let them go after the other party, that just does not seem like a good method here at all.

That may be the case here, I do not have much experience with insurance.

Like I have said I have read here for years to let the company that you are paying handle the matter so that is what I did, however, it seems that did not work correctly.

You didn't get an accident report with their info on it at the scene?

Chances are Progressive is treating it as uninsured because you don't have any info on the other party.

Yeah let your insurance come fight them, it is the best. Just keep your guys honest that you don't believe it is uninsured motorist

But it might be

State trooper came out, full report made.

Other party was at fault, report takes days to be ready.

I told the wife to contact Progressive and get the claim started.

Why woukd you have a deductible on a not your fault accident?... call the 1800 number from persons insurance drop your car off at your preffered shop... wtf are you driving 6 hrs to get a door thats not gonna match your supposed perfect car? Thats the bodyshops job. Have you like never been in accident before?

Just got dealing with something similar. My wife's 2012 Expedition EL got rear ended by a ragged out 99 f150. The guy driving it wasn't the owner, but the owner did have insurance. The police came and did a report, he was at fault for following too closely.

Long story short, the owner of the other vehicle never contacted his own insurance, probably because the truck was worth less than the deductible, so he was just going to walk away and not file. Since he ghosted his insurance company, they would not entertain our claim with them. So we had to go through our insurance and pay the $500 deductible. Our insurance will now go after the other drivers insurance company, and we might get our deductible back, but it could take forever.

Bottom line, you should try and go though the other parties insurance first, and if that doesn't work go through yours.

For the above, I'd still say go thru your own insurance first.

May never get reimbursed, but the other option may never get repaired

Ultimate option is is to put your wife in junk and don't pay for insurance, but I think we are past that point

you have the right to take it where you want to fix it. sounds like the dealership bodyshop needs to fix it correctly. its an insurance problem. make them get it right.

I have used my insurance (State Farm) to go after the responsible party in the past.
I also take my vehicle where I want to, not what the other insurance company is trying to spin.

My deductible was taken out of the settlement, with my insurance company going after the other party for that too.

Just about year and a half later it is still in recovery process following a fella doing an illegal Uturn in front of my KLR650. It has been recovered before.

Based on my current experience, you shouldn’t have even bothered with a claim I would’ve gotten an estimate before I would’ve even filed a claim because now that you filed you’re going to get penalized in your premiums are gonna go up even though it was not your fault so cancel the claim if you haven’t done so yet you might get out of head because you’ll pay more than $2300 over the next five years and insurance premium increase increases

I've had to deal with the at-fault persons insurance. Total PITA especially when they have a fly-by-night company. It seems like if you're paying premiums, your own company should handle it, provided you have collision. That said, pretty much all forms of insurance are a scam.

no, not really. 5 years ago I was rear ended and that is it for my history of auto insurance
So 5 yrs ago did dlyou drive around collecting parts for a body shop and then pay your deductible for person rear ending you?
