Dont know how much of a "build" it will be, but whatever. I'm just wanting to get it to be a driver.

Picked up this V12 Jaguar last year.

It ended up not being totally as described, with some ****ed up paint and interior only okay. But it runs, and is solid.

I'm finally (mostly) retired, so I have a bit of time to get it out of my trailer and get to work.

First up was exhaust. Someone previous to me had straight piped it. And it sounded like ass.

I found someone parting out a newer V8 car, and picked up the "cat-back" section. It turns out that the middle section on my car was also home made, but the over axle bends were stock. I was able to use the OEM V8 mufflers and piping from the axle back by just bending the hangers, and it works good enough.

Last week I replaced the shocks that were banging around, as well as the battery.

Today, I am going to work on the alternator. it has battery voltage at the plug, but it's not charging. So I'm throwing a re-man at it

Always liked the looks of those but never thought about buying one with the 12 unless it had already been on fire so I could get it cheap and V8 swap it. My brother was really into the jags with straight 6 then ended up with a X-type 3.0V6 manual trans which is pretty rare here in states.

To me a V12 is more interesting than a V8 swap, especially to something that could already be had with a V8 to begin with.

I don't know **** about **** with these things, so I'll learn as I go. This has the newest 6.0 liter V12, and supposedly from what I read they seem to be more better the older 5.3s. Mostly because it was after Ford got involved.

Time will tell.

man those are cool cars but I just do not know if the juice on them is worth the squeeze.

Hope it works out for you

So, I may have just done it wrong before, or maybe the low voltage was messing things up, but I was able to get into the diagnostics with my Autel after all.

Turns out I was sort of wrong about OBD 1.

It's a weird OBD I/II hybrid that Jag got exception to use.

Anyways. The code it is throwing is a P0753. Shift solenoid A

I wouldn't exaxtly call it harsh, but the 1-2 shift is definitely noticable.

Internet says to just change the fluid.

My brain says that if I am changing the oil, I should also do the filter. And if I'm dropping the pan to do the filter, I might as well put some new solenoids in it? They are cheap enough.

The transmission is just a GM 4l80e

Thoughts?

My brain works like yours in that regard. I would pull pan for filter and if it's not expensive go for the repair while in there.

Chasing coolant leaks today.

Took it for a drive over to Port Angeles today. Got it up to about 70mph.

It's mostly smooth, but I want to find some OEM wheels for more sidewall.

That and its not shifting into 4th gear. :homer:

At least it's not shifting into an extra neutral. But I really didn't want to drop the pan quite yet.

Don't hold me to this because automatics are the devil to me but I think your bad solenoid issue could cause no OD too. Do your repair and clean or buy a new drain pan incase you need to reclaim your brand new fluid again. If your pan has a drain plug great, if not buy one that does\ mod the factory one.

Edit also I am starting to like those little valves for anything that isn't going to be beat on offroad. Push a hose on them and flip the lever and they drain right into a jug.

Ugh, **** working in driveways, **** automatics, and **** anyone who welds exhaust into place without a thought of removing it!

Were under contract for house. A bigger garage is a perk of that house and a lift is high on the list of things to get for new house.

It took me all gaddamn morning to get the pan off the car. I am letting it drip while I get lunch and go to a VA appointment. Maybe I will get it back together this afternoon, but probably tomorrow.

I definitely need a V12 in my life at some point. Not sure it'd be a Jag though. I loved the XJS as a kid but the shape really hasn't aged well. The sedans look much better now.
The 850 bmws still look good but pretty rare over here.
Got a ride in an aston martin a while ago, the sound was sublime but no way I could afford to keep it running.

Well, just went for a ride. Didn't let the car warm up at all, and it grabbed OD just fine. Then didn't grab OD on the way home after it was up to temp.

I didn't find any relays (I don't know if they even exist for the 4l80e, I just know one was was needed when I swapped a 46re into my jeep)

TPS seems fine.

I'm going to **** with the transmission connector. Maybe there's a loose connection.

But I'm starting to think the trans is just ****ed up. Maybe losing line pressure when fluid gets hot.

If I pull this transmission out. It's not going back in. I'll throw some Lucas snake oil in it to get me by until I have a real garage.

Wonder who had that in AK. Usually any "exotic" sticks out like a turd in the punch bowl.

When I had a Lotus Elise I hated stopping anywhere, was like the paparazzi with photos and usually dumb questions... and somehow was mostly a dumb dude magnet.

It wasn't up there. I got it here in WA

Up until last month I was an AK resident and registered all my **** by mail up there.

I pulled the plug for the wire harness off the back of the trans last night (was a pain because I had to pull the mount crossmember to get to it) and blasted it off with contact cleaner.

It now works great!

Furthest drive yet done today, a bit over an hour 1 way to work. OD most of the whole way. Even kicked down with a bit of full throttle, then back into OD.

Works well. Highway cruising is nice!
