Does anyone make a mag release that has a longer tab to grab the mag better? Building a 9mm ar and this mag adapter/mag release fitment is less than ideal and the mags just fall out with a slight bump.

What’s the IBB think the best solution is

Can you not just tighten the mag release up a little more? That's what I did to mine when I had a pro mag colt magazine adapter.

Wouldn't it still just bottom out where it bottoms out no matter how tight?

i ordered the extended mag catch, thanks Aisin for the linky.

The better adapter is a glock mag lower. Just sayin.
i'm making a Colt 635 clone.

I can't remember what was wrong with mine. But I thought that it was dropping mags and it tightened the mag release. It made it stiffer to push.

If you tighten the mag catch it should pull it in closer to the interior of the magwell. Snap an image of the mag release button (the one that is pushed by a finger). I will bet that there will be at least one thread still showing. The threaded "stud" should be as flush with the button as possible. Or not...

It’s flush. I really don’t think tightening it will help? It still bottoms out against the channel in the receiver, it’ll just make the button harder to push in.

The 635s barrel had/has a very shallow feed cone. The fact that it was way under buffered did not help either.

Problems resolved are always a good thing. I’m currently talking to a buffer manufacturer about getting a custom buffer made. It will have 6 tungsten weights and should weigh 15 to 16 ounces. The buffer will be 5.5 inches long. It’s not cheap but it will help slow that ****ing bolt down.

Just wanted to throw some info out there for anyone looking at Colt Mag lowers.....

Palmetto State Armory has their H&R brand dedicated 9mm Colt mag lower (no insert) that uses a a mag catch catch that is designed to go into the magazine catch hole a little deeper than a standard mag AR mag catch.

They won't sell it the mag catch separately (I begged for one), but it is probably the best current choice out there
for anyone wanting to build a 9mm Colt clone/retro SMG.
