AMC just made **** cars that the public didn't want. Anyone remember the Pacer ?
I just looked up some of the junk they offered: Rambler, Gremlin, Pacer, Hornet, Ambassador, Rebel, Matador, Marlin, AMX and Javelin. LOL! Find any one of those still running and it’s a goldmine!

they did give us the xj/mj as their last dying act.

then chrysler ****ed it all up later.

Would you rather have a CJ5 with inline 6 cylinder, leaky soft top, AMC 20 rear axle and mystery ignition and charging systems or a TJ, JK Rubicon with D44s and a decent top? How about an XJ with a piece of **** GM 2.8L V6 or a Chrysler version with a 4.0L? Grand Cherokee with a Magnum V8 or Hemi versus an old Grand Wagoneer with an anemic AMC 360? How about a new Wagoneer or Grand Wagoneer? I'd say Chrysler has done really well.

Yup, in the 1960's thru the 1980's Jeep did "dumpster diving" for parts. Exact same models of Jeep had various alternators, distributors, starters, etc.
It was whatever they could scrouge up from other manuifacturers.

That's ******ed

I want an AMC engine that benefits from the past 50 years of development:flipoff2:

I'll settle for ending the NHTSA and EPA and associated acts of congress that allowed for them, coupled with the establishment in non-union shops

i dont agree with this take at all. every manufacturer had a model that was not good. Pinto? Chevette? i mean, that 70s era was not great for the big 3 either. how about a 105 hp Mustang II?

AMC was a small, independent manufacturer that couldnt fully compete with the big 3 over the long haul because of resources and volume. They were wildly successful with many models, and acquired Willys to keep manufacturing the CJ, San Diego.

THey even had the Matador that was really popular in Nascar, driven by Bobby Allison.

This is one of those times where you illustrate just how little you actually know sometimes. The mustang 2 and the vega may have been ****ty cars but plenty of people wanted them. They sold in droves and thats why inspite of how bad they were there are still thousands of them or parts of them running around. At one point like 90percent of hotrods were 25 percent mustang 2. Noone has said man id really like to put a rambler front subframe under this ....
