Rake getting mounted

Removed the engine mounted gas tank and replaced it with a poly snowblower tank mounted to the frame. You can also see the new throttle control, it is for a chyna mini excavator.

New PTO assembly installed, nice and stout, tensioner is next.

The ujoints in the original drive shaft went out. Kind of a weak design to begin with and had no slip so in order to remove it the engine or axle has to be un bolted.

Replacement shaft uses heavier ujoints and 1” keyed shaft with a slip coupler so it can be removed.

Ram mounted for the root rake, 12” stroke. With the swing of the cutter head and the rake it will be able to pick itself off the ground.

Took a bit to figure how to engage the PTO along with having a neutral as well. When put in neutral the two pulleys pinch the belt together keeping it off the engine pulley. When engaged the idler pulley no longer makes contact with the belts.

The pulley assembly slides back and forth on a PTO slip shaft. Going to engage the assembly with an acme screw.

Surprised you have time to paint. I figured that thing would be hard at work right away.

I always put off painting until it's greasy and rusty and the paint wouldn't stick anyways and....

looks nice

btw, the belt sliding on the pullies when the tensioner's loosened isn't really an issue, it doesn't cause significant wear
nice solution to it you did, though

If you paint before running it there's always a bunch of things needing to be cut, moved, added or changed somehow so it ends up looking halfass anyway.

I struggle with this because my motivation goes to or has been at zero as soon as projects done.

the only finished project is the project you're finished with

Added a belt guard to keep debris off the belt. The shakedown job I did the other day discovered the belts don't like sucking wood chips through the pulleys.

Guard is a simple sheet of diamond plate aluminum bolted in place in front of the belts, seems to be doing a good job. Another shakedown, this time about 20 red pine stumps. They were a little rotten but still did them all on one tank of gas.

Got a pretty big job with it this week. 8 stumps ranging from 1.5' to 3' in diameter, a job I couldn't do with my other tractor.
