In anyone knows where I can get the plastic needle bearings a NV3500 please chime in .

Gonna take a stab at rebuilding a NV-3500

It had a zillion miles on it , the last 40k behind a LS 5.3 with 3.73 gears and 35s

And the run last Saturday of 1600 miles at 80 mph finished off first gear and second gear , fifth and reverse still works but sounds like a box of gravel

Made it back home though .

Think it’s from a late 90s or 2001 ish Silverado , I’m not sure .

I've rebuilt my dodge nv3500. You need to find an alignment stand or build your own. It holds the shafts and gears in a specific spot to set the case back on.

What is the common failure in these transmission?

My issue was the pilot bearing siezed amd grooved the input shaft. I found it when doing a clutch. So I tore it down and replaced it. And inspected it since it was apart.

Mine is noisy with the transmission in neutral and your foot off the clutch. Quiets down when you engage the clutch.

Input shaft bearing, might have the same issue Domer mentioned with the tip of the input shaft that rides in the pilot bearing might be worn which lead to the bearing on the transmission end failing.

I found the shop manual for rebuilding a dodge version , I assume it’s the same as the GM version .

Anybody have a file for 3D printing the stand ?

Or a diagram for welding up a metal one ?

This is the one that seems easiest for me to make .

I got a wooden workbench and a drawer full of old hole saws

Found my old pictures.
Here is the stand. I found mine on ebay for $100 shipped.

Roughly what the gears look like when you split the cases.

What was left of my clutch..

And my pilot bearing.. good thing dodge made a replaceable sleeve also on these..mine was trashed.. input shaft was grooved badly. They do make a repair sleeve for the input also.

My input shaft was trashed in the bearing area

Bought a new input shaft .

And I bought a rebuilt kit , but it has three syncro rings and the trans has five syncro rings

And the kit didn’t come with the needle bearings , and that’s what’s bad in my trans , the plastic cage the needles ride in melted

Along with the center roller bearing on the main shaft breaking apart

And didn’t come with the new rubber ring that’s on the main shaft .

Where did you get your parts ?

I’m struggling to find all the parts .

All state gear is where I get alot from.
Look under chevy transmission, nv3500 and it shows dodge parts

Good info

Apparently we have a AX-15 and not anNV-3500?

These needle bearings are only listed on the AX-15 parts

Interesting. Mine is an Nv3500. But if you can cross reference the number then good to go.

I can’t cross the numbers

And im pretty sure mine is a 3500

Bolted right up to the 350 and later to the 5.3

But mine has those needle bearings in plastic cages and apparently no one sells them ?

It’s the plastic that melted and caused me to need to
Rebuilt it
