Being physically challenged I've thought many times how nice it'd be to have a two post lift. Got my hands on a 10,000 lb Mac in very good shape ($500). Wanting to install it at my house, got a good place for it but it'd be outside. I've seen lots of 4 posts outside but not many 2 posts. Any great concerns? Could a man make some covers for the post just to keep the weather out?
Maybe a 5 gallon bucket? Just thinking out loud, I've still got to find someone to completely move it for me.

Never had a rig fall off of a lift or get all that close. Had a few feet wiggle and make the arm lock engage but that's about the worst.

Always give the rig a solid shake as soon as the tires are off the ground and anything big & heavy like dads '01 x cab 4x dually cummins gets a giant screw jack on each end to stabilize it.

All you women worry too much. You just need to be 10 % smarter than the machine youre operating and you will be fine. 30 years of doing this ****, I've never dropped anything.
It isnt the kinetic energy in which I fear... it is the the conversion of potential energy to kinetic energy.

Mistakes happen too. Buddy was working on his 911, all new pimp daddy exhaust and stuff. Dropped the car down, had a leak, lifted it back up and used a third leg to push up on exhaust to seal the leak. Went to lower it, lifted it to pull the safety pins, got a phone call, grabbed the bungee to hold the lever to lower it on cruise control, forgot to pull the third leg. Dumped it, it's on video but he won't send it to anyone. I think he was crying.

i'll admit that has almost happened a time or two here also. distractions happen, no such thing as accidents.

I worked at an indy shop year ago where a pickup truck fell off the rack. The truck had bed boxes full of tools and was very back heavy. The teck placed the rear lift pads on the frame on a spot which is kinda far forward due to leaf springs. Truck was about chest height and he removed front wheels to do a brake job and as soon as the wheels came off, weight was unbalanced and the truck fell backwards and landed on trailer hitch. Was able to carefully lower down without incident. No injuries or damage to vehicle or lift. Got very lucky

You have never worked in the oilfield then. There’s some things that happen that have no explanation. Don’t get me wrong there’s plenty of preventable problems as well but to think that way is completely ******ed

I worked at a Chevy dealership 30 years ago that had pneumatic over hydraulic in ground lifts that you controlled the front and rear posts independently with a foot lever. Each tech’s bay had one and each one lifted front to rear at diff rates. I’ve seen a couple mishaps with them. Also seen them shut the compressor down for the week d and came back in on Monday to seeing a 98 Z71 being held up by the oil drain…

I work outside in Florida on 2 post lift everyday for a living. Has a roof over it but no sides. Last lift made it like 20 years but was trashed when replaced. New one is about 5 years old. Put new cables in last year but otherwise doing ok. Old one the power button would short in the on position due to not being a weatherproof switch. Luckily the disconnect is within a step and a arms reach away.

bunch of fairys in here! just gotta figure out your balance point and get to it! I used my antique 2post 7k lift for years on all kinds if big trucks. now I have a 10k 2post lift in the other bay, but still use both of them. no issues with either of my crewcabs on them.
started out working in a shop with in ground lifts with separate controls. those are sketchy for sure. they had some of those at the dealer downtown, and the controls were in the floor. someone parked a mini van there one day, and somehow the controls got kicked. lifted that thing up by the fuel tank!

I bought a scissor alignment hoist a few years ago. It was about 10 years old. Had an effwhonfiddy on it and was bringing it back down when a hose ruptured about 4” off the ground. Scared the hell outa me. Thankfully I have a hose crimper and redid every damn line on that hoist.

that is ****ing weird, no one is touching the car, it is like that rear arm just shot out of it.

I thought it was AI at first as it doesn't seem real.

The car just sitting on the lift falls shooting that arm out?

I don't get it there.

I'm guessing it was off balance the whole time and it just continually slipped further and further that direction.
It could be any number of things but either way...it belongs in this thread.
